Description

For Sale: A very nice 1987 Jeep Cherokee. An almost completely stock and original First Generation XJ with a manual transmission. These are becoming harder to find in this stock, unmolested, condition, as many have been modified for off-road use. With a smooth-running engine and an original interior, this is a cool vintage daily driver!
A couple of notes:
The interior is completely original and in very good condition, with no rips or tears anywhere. The deep black headliner is still soft and straight, and not sagging. The sun shades include the original factory warning labels! The carpet is worn in some areas, particularly in the driver footwell.
The car comes with the original window sticker, as well as two sets of original keys. A binder of invoices dating back to the late 1980s is also included.
The Bull bar is an original 1987 option with upgraded, modern high beams. Documentation is included.
The paint is the factory original Olympic White. It is in overall good condition.
The original instrument gauge cluster, with the awkward giant fuel gauge, was replaced with a very nice Sport gauge cluster, which includes a tachometer and stylish red accents. Please note that the odometer reading is incorrect; the car has an estimated 230,000 miles. The original instrument cluster is included.
The car has a modern radio with Bluetooth phone connectivity. A magnetic phone holder and USB connection are unobtrusively mounted on the dashboard.
A mild, 2" lift with spacers in front and shackles in the rear has been professionally installed.
The A/C compressor, the clutch, and the alternator have been professionally replaced. The battery is less than a year old.
A small crack on the dash, above the center console, has been filled in.
The engine runs smooth; there are no oil leaks, and no exhaust smoke. The five-speed manual shifts positively but must be treated gently, in line with its age.
A suspected loose ground in the dash is causing the instrument cluster to not illuminate at night. The front turn signals don't appear to work. The horn is not connected. Turning on the headlights will, somehow, illuminate the left turn arrow on the gauge cluster.
There are a number of small rust spots around the car. see the photos for a representative sample. There is a small dent on the left rear quarter panel. below the fuel door. See photo. There are a couple of rusty spots under the car which should be cut out and re-welded. See photo.
Listing without a reserve! This car is a survivor and a great, original example of an early Cherokee XJ. It deserves to go to a Cherokee enthusiast. Message me for more photos, or to do a video walkaround and go over the car in detail. Thanks!
