Description
HERSTORY: She's been in our family 8 years, always getting the best love
and TLC. We got her from the previous owner in Denver when she was six years
old with 87K miles, slightly above average mileage for her age. Vehicle report shows no accidents but shows three owners because the title was later transferred due to divorce. Original title was in the ex's name, so technically we're third "owner".
We have no service history on her prior to her joining our family, but the previous owner installed a 4-inch lift kit and oversized tires and rims (see last photo for how she looked back then).
TIRES/WHEELS: When it came time to get new tires, one of the rims didn't match the others, so we sold ‘em and put on stock steel rims and tires (which have only 4,867 miles on them now). The 4-inch lift is still there, though, so you can put on your own oversized tires and wheels for off-roading.
ENGINE REBUILD: About 13,237 miles ago, while getting a tune-up, new plugs and coil, our car guy tested the compression and one cylinder was much lower than the others, indicating bad rings. So, before anything more could happen, we had him rebuild the engine: the cylinders were bored out, she got new pistons, rings, plugs, coil, oxygen sensor, fuel injector (6), and new fuel pump. Originally a 4.0 liter, now that she's been bored out she's more than 4 liters, so she sure can cook !
Kept garaged in Spring Texas, in addition to oil changes about every 4,500 miles since she's been in the family, just before the engine rebuild we did a complete flush and fill of the Transmission, Power Steering, Transfer Case, Front and Rear Axles (about 13,909 miles ago).
Here’s a brief summary of what she’s had done, and how long ago:
New Shock Absorbers, about 34,307 miles ago,
New Windshield, about 24,565 miles ago,
New AM/FM/CD/MP3 single-disc stereo with remote, about 24,565 miles ago,
New Radiator, started leaking one hot Houston summer in triple digit temps! about 20,577 miles ago,
New Battery, about 14,815 miles ago,
New Fluids, Flush and Fill: Transmission, Power Steering, Transfer case, Front Axle, Rear Axle, all done about 13,909 miles ago,
New Engine Rebuild, new pistons, rings, plugs, coil, oxygen sensor, fuel injector (6), fuel pump, etc. about 13,237 miles ago,
New Air Filter, about 5,202 miles ago,
New Tires, Kumho P215/75R-15, about 4,867 miles ago,
New Front Brakes Rotors and Pads, about 4,576 miles ago,
New A/C Recharge, about 4,004 miles ago,
New Headlights, about 3,799 miles ago,
New Water Pump and Thermostat, about 2,376 miles ago.
New Texas Emissions Inspection Sticker, May 2015, 355 miles ago.
All electrical works: electric windows, electric mirrors, electric door locks with keyless remote, and she passes the emissions test.
As you can tell from the mileage detail above, we have all of her service records, and she comes with her original Owner’s Manual.
All fluids were replaced by Jiffy Lube. All mechanical work has been done by our car guy here in Spring, Texas, so he can vouch for the vehicle. He's been a car mechanic over 40 years, has a small repair shop, just him and his brother, they rebuild about two engines a week, plus all types of other automotive work, all with no advertising, only word-of-mouth, which is how we found him.
Why are we selling her? She gets driven only about 50 miles a week, we got too many vehicles, so it’s time to find her a new home, where she has room to run, and maybe go off road . . . again . . .
OK, that was the good stuff. . .
If you choose to be the one to give her a new home, here’s what you’ll need to be aware of:
Past warranty battery: The 2-year battery is in its third year.
Rear brakes were okay when we did the front rotors and pads, and they’re still fine, but eventually
Head liner is loose: the fabric interior ceiling is coming un-glued. The visors and ceiling lights keep it up there but it has an interesting “floating cloud” effect when viewed in the rear-view mirror.
A/C needs recharging too often, probably slow leak. You & your buddies can put in a new compressor ?
Loose trim on right-front passenger-side door (see photo), so she gets hand-washed instead
Weak rear hatch supports: they hold up the hatch okay in summer (see photo), not so well in colder winter air, so she comes with a custom-cut bamboo stick to prop up the hatch. New pair of supports: $29 here on eBay. See eBay Item Number 141637163429
Rear hatch latch binds: To open rear hatch, you turn the key clock-wise, “hard” then “yank” the handle, and it opens. If it don’t work the first time, repeat as needed. We don’t use the rear-hatch all that much anyway, which is why we never fixed it, preferring to focus more on the mechanical aspects that keep her running smooth and powerful.
She may not be as good-lookin’ as the others,
but she's got a lot of new stuff under her skirt,
and a lot more balls than any other 4.0 Liter.
This is not for your girl to go to the nail salon.
This is a “guy” Jeep, needin' a new home.
She needs to be taken off road.
She’s got the power, and she needs it bad.
How about you? Would you take her off road?
Bid now, before someone else grabs her.
Good luck being an eBay Winner !
