Description
1988 LANCIA DELTA GT IE 1.6 LITRE 5-SPEED 5-DOOR HATCHBACK
Calling all Italian car enthusiasts this is a close relative of the legendary Integrale! This is the GT model, fuel-injected DOHC 1.6 litre front-wheel-drive, factory built RHD for the UK market. Very, very few in Australia (I saw one recently advertised by a Melbourne dealer for $10-12k).
I purchased this rare car in the UK, 10 years ago and privately imported it. It has been in storage in my warehouse in Australia ever since. I have never used it other than the occasional starting & driving around the paddock.
GOOD POINTS: Lively Italian motor & nimble handling. Designer label interior: label says “Ermenegildo Zegna exclusive for Lancia Delta”- excellent condition in white & check patterned cloth. Good set of alloy wheels & tyres. Well equipped for the era with Radio/Cassette, Sunroof, Electric front windows & Central Locking. Had been regularly serviced before being placed into storage.
BAD POINTS: RUST, RUST & more RUST. This unfortunately was the era of poor rust proofing and this car has rust patches in most panels (meaning doors, guards, arches etc). Worst is probably the roof seam above the rear hatch. The good news is that the all-important front suspension towers are sound, as are the floors. Two external door handles need repair. The exhaust system has perished from lack of use. It will need a NEW BATTERY.
SUMMARY: This is a rare GT model Delta at a fraction of what an Integrale would cost & at a fraction of the only other one I‘ve ever seen advertised in Australia. And Integrale’s were never built in RHD. This is of a type & era of European hot hatch which was never imported new (with the exception of the Peugeot 205 Gti).
You have a number of options with the car:
Conversion to race or rallyRestoring for the roadUsing the dash/ steering for a RHD conversion on an Integrale (often done in England)Using the components (especially the engine & interior) for another vehicleA copy of the FORS Import permit will be provided upon sale
I have now retired & have other projects to keep me occupied so I will never get around to this one. With UK shipment costing $3000 alone, before import fees & GST, you are buying at well under half of what it cost me.
Please note where it is - Crookwell NSW which is 45 klms west of Goulburn which in turn is 2 ½ hours south of Sydney. Clearly it is not registered so you will need either a trailer or transporter to collect. Please consider this before bidding. I can give some advice on carriers.
The usual Ebay rules apply, you are bidding to buy, not to inspect, change your mind or haggle over price. I am a long-term Ebayer with extensive & positive feedback - 14 years - when there was only an Ebay US site!
