Description
Hi everyone. This auction is for a “very project” 1992 land
rover defender 90 so please read all
the way to the bottom. It comes with a spare galvanised chassis as part
of the sale. I bought this recently from a guy who had a quote for repairs for
the MOT of around £2500 most of which was the welding to the chassis.
The Car:
As said above this is a project you will not be able to drive it away there is no MOT and the vehicle needs a lot of work. The main issues are:
The chassis is pretty badly corroded and although I guess anything is salvageable I wasn’t willing to take it on (although it has had a fairly recent new rear cross member):
· The chassis is corroded badly in quite a few places easiest thing is to replace it
· The Bulk head has corrosion around the top of the pillars (prefab repair panels inc. in the sale). The foot wells need some work too and the may be the odd patch elsewhere (see the photos)
· I was told the engine threw all the coolant out at the rear of the engine bay recently which may be a head gasket or could just be a core plug I don’t know. The engine is a 200tdi and does run. It drove the four miles from where I bought from it to home without any issues. Didn't overheat and no excessive smoke from the rear end and seemed to pull alright. The engine is filthy and has had a new turbo in the last two years according to the last owner.
· There will be some other bits and bobs for an MOT I’m sure I think a couple of the lights are out, N/S wing mirror cracked and a stone chip in the windscreen and the park brake seems to stick on if used (I have left it off for now so I can move it around the drive). There will probably be a few other bits and bobs
· V5 in my name
· Has a Toad immobiliser alarm
· Two sets of keys (for the ignition only I think. The previous owner said that the door locks may have been replaced)
The rest of the car is as can be seen from the pictures. I have a rear step and the other side bar. I don’t have the cushions for the back seats or the front middle seat. This car has been used as a farm vehicle for livestock in recent years at least, hence the animal guard between the front and rear. It’s had a long hard life but there’s still life in it yet.
The Replacement Chassis
This is Richards galvanised chassis replacement. Not been stamped with an ID yet details as follows:
· 90 defender for 200tdi (and has been on a previous vehicle for a short period of time)
· Galvanised (has had post galvanised rear roll cage mount welded on (see photos)
· Has integral rear whinch tray
· Made for a “giggle pin set up” not rear radius arms. I don’t have the giggle pins or boxes you would need to buy these (£350 on ebay) or you could possible salvage the radius arm mounts from the old chassis and weld them on the new one?
· I do have the original bill of sale to the guy I bought it from
Summary
I've tried to be honest and include all I know. Come and have a look before buying if at all possible this a major project and viewing it will save my time and yours. You will need a trailer to remove both items. If less than 40 miles I might be able to help with the chassis only you would still need a trailer for the car but this would be by prior arrangement.
This is collection only I prefer cash on collection or bank transfer.
If you have any questions or for more pictures you can email through ebay or call me on 07854731081 thanks for looking Dave.
