Land Rover: Discovery LE

1998 Land Rover Discovery. This is the last and the best of the Discovery Ones. It is a 50th Anniversary Discovery LE edition, but not the 50th Anniversary Discovery (special edition) which is green not Red like mine, and has a little badge on the dash. I bought this because this is as close to a Defender as I can afford, it has the portal axels, aluminum body panels and heavy steel frame that makes these things nearly indestructible as long as the electronics hold up. This is a rare Discovery 1 because the air-conditioning works and all the windows work. I have not played with the sunroofs much. I can hear the solenoids working and the front sunroof does pop up on the back side as it should (the first open position). The Power and the heat for the seats works. Finally and most importantly the Hi, Lo, and lock positions work on the transfer case. Mechanically this is probably the best discovery 1 I have had. I just put a new steering box in, and it sits on New Mickey Thompson tires. Still leaks steering fluid it might be coming from the hose connection at the pump. We are putting in a new brake master cylinder this week. Looking to take away the need for double pumping the brakes. The radio is out; I was planning on changing it and changed my mind. The body is truly impressive for the year, it has little dings, but it is straighter than most. Yes, I have the really cool Land rover jack. Finally the seats are near perfect. There is a small tear in the driver seat (note the seat cover) but all the other seats are good and the carpet is great except for the cargo area where there is tear.
Sorry; the only guarantee is that the engine will run and the transmission will shift. If you’re not handy, or don’t have tons of money to pay someone else please don’t buy this car. I really tried to list all the issues, but I don’t guarantee I have listed everything.
Two lights are on the dash (The abs light) although the abs still appears to work. And the check engine (the code is catalyst below 99% efficiency). These lights will still probably be on for the lucky winner when the car is picked up.
If you fly in to Seattle I will pick you up at the Bainbridge Ferry (easy trip on the light rail from the airport) If you take the train in, I will meet you at the Amtrak station in Seattle. If you’re local I may be able to pick you up at the ferry landing. I will work with shippers, but you pay the shipper.
