Description

1963 Land Rover 88 Series 2A. 2.25 Petrol. This is an original LHD US spec truck in unusually good condition. Other than the body paint it is completely original, but even the paint has a story!
This truck was purchased new in 1963 by Mr. Lew Carlisle in Jackson Hole WY. He worked for the LA Dodgers, who were the first MLB team to have a team airplane, he was the pilot. He kept the truck on his ranch in Wyoming until he tragically died in an accident in France 1982. At some point during its time on the ranch the truck sustained minor damage to the rear door, and when it was repaired he had the entire truck painted Dodgers blue, hence the color and cracks on the back door. The interior ismstill the original Marine Blue. On his death the truck was left in his will to his brother in law who lived in Plant City FL, where it was kept indoors in an air conditioned garage until I bought it in 2017 from Lew’s brother in law.
The truck has barely been used and as you can see from the pictures is about as original as any Series you will find. It still has the original rubber mats on the floors! Absolutely everything works as it should, it runs, drives and stops like a Series Land Rover. High and Low ratio, as well as 4 wheel drive all function perfectly. It has the original Koenig winch, the drive shaft for which is removed but I have it. Also has the Smiths heater, which is fully operational.
I have all of the parts that have ever been changed, brake drums, shoes, starter, dynamo, voltage regulators etc. I also have the original manual and winch installation instructions that came with it when new, as well as the majority of the original tool kit too,
The chassis and bulkhead are original and solid, and while this truck has the normal Land Rover oil leaks it has none of the corrosion. It could probably benefit from a new muffler ( very small hole ) and door seals if you wanted it water tight ( Land Rover water tight!).
This is not your average Land Rover, it’s very original.
If you want any more pictures or have any questions please let me know. The truck is located in Parrish Florida and will need to be collected from there. Thank you for looking.
