Description

History..My Great Uncle purchased this Land Rover new from a dealership in State College, Pa. Uncle Jack was a Obstetrician in Indiana Pa and needed something that could get him to the hospital in any weather, hence the Land Rover. This Land Rover was an fowl weather car for the family not a daily driver for them, although in the summers they removed the hard top and installed the soft top and cruzed the town. The Land Rover failed to pass state inspection in 1988 and was left in his garage of years. Uncle Jack always intended to fix the frame but. My brother purchased the Land Rover years later with plans to fix the frame and make it road worthy once more. Well that never happened. It sat in his garage until Jan of this year when he sold it to me.
My tenure with this Land Rover has been a blast. I tore it down to almost nothing and started with a new galvanized steel frame from Rovers North (as 99% of all the other parts). I have replaced the brake shoes, slave cylinders, flex lines, some hard lines and master cylinder. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, flex line, hard line and master cylinder. New tires, new door panels, I replaced the rusted door posts and toe boards, side panels, bottom door frames with new galvanized steel parts. I replaced the gas tank, fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. Replaced windshield wipers, side mirrors and door seals. Replaced the shocks, tuned the engine. I spent hours working on the electrical system, did I say hours and hours? I should have just replaced it but you know what the say about hind sight. Everything electric works today and now. As this is a Lucas electric system(prince of darkness)(I have owned 4 MG Bs) who knows if that will be a true statement tomorrow.
This Land Rover is now back on the road, it has a new Pa inspection sticker after 26 years. It is a hoot to drive. It shakes, it shimmies, it is loud inside, 1st and 2nd gear are not syncroed so gear shifts are an adventure until you learn how to shift and double clutch. The patina is perfect, I could have painted it but I could not destroy the 45 year old patina, it looks like it should. It runs well, 60 MPH is as fast as I have gone, any faster and I would start wondering about my back fillings. I love to drive this Rover around town.
I have the original jack, hand crank, both owners manuals, British and USA versions, repair manual, restoration manual, complete tool roll, soft top and complete set of bows for the soft top. The soft top has a small rip in the roof (see photo) and plastic windows are not exactly see through more like see shadows. All the seats are original and are in great shape as is the head liner for the hard top. I have all receipts of my work, it was lots and lots of money, just ask my wife.
I have placed the reserve slightly under the NADA listing in good condition so do not call me and ask what the reserve is, do some research and bid. This Land Rover is sold AS IS WHERE IS. NO warranty. I will assist in loading. I will accept CASH only. Payment in full is due prior to Land Rover leaving my driveway. You may take it for a ride prior to sale, I will require cash in hand prior. Any questions call me 814 442 4834. I can send photos of the tear down and the rebuild.
