1987 Range Rover Classic 3.5 V8 4 Door

1987 Range Rover Classic
1987 Range Rover ClassicCurrently Registered till October but will be sold without RWC unless otherwise negotiated.Runs and drives well and has been my daily driver for the past 4 years. This Rangie hasn’t let me down from family holidays to dirt roads through western QLD travelling as a country doctor.Work is forcing me to move far north and I’d take the Rangie with me but life and practicality are getting in the way. With four kids it’s time for a 7 seater 4WD. Too many camping opportunities to miss out on. Plus I don’t have as much time to play in the shed as I used too….Overall for 27yo vehicle it’s in good condition. Plenty of small dents, touches of surface rust etc. - but no serious rust or terminal damage.
Details
Comes with brand new full length roof rack (If it sells for $2000+). Rack is compatible with many roof-top campers. Otherwise I will reinstall the small rack as shown in the last picture.New dog barrier.Nice aftermarket alloys in good condition. No damage, no gutter rash but clear coat is aging. 32” Yokohama tyres with more than 80% tread and good quality rubber (spare included).Good suspension and bushes. Bought full set of bushes and replaced all that needed doing. Unused bushes included with car. Also comes with a full set of track rod ends. New Aluminium Radiator with twin thermo fans fitted to sheet metal shroud. Temperature controlled with Davies Craig switch and relay. New Alternator.Good battery .Watchdog temperature sensor with alarm that measures block temperature not coolant.Brand new speedo cable
Known Issues
Speedo is not original. Actual Km’s are approx 200,000+Speedo intermittently fluctuates. Has new cable and replaced speedo unit. I suspect it needs the angle gear replaced on the back. Spare included.Rear main seal leaks (no surprises there). No other oil leaks as far as I can tell. Leaking coolant. Has new main radiator hoses and small hoses at the pump. I have spare heater core hoses ready for fitting. Not sure on the exact source of the leak. I’ve noted coolant accumulation around the rear passenger head gasket. The leak is most likely due to corroded metal lines that run under the inlet manifold (very common problem and stainless replacements are easily available). Worse case scenario it may be a manifold gasket but it’s unusual for water to leak externally it usually goes into the combustion chamber. Compression check has all cylinders at full pressure and she starts perfectly everytime without smoke. Coolant pressure testing shows a slow leak. Unfortunately, I don’t have chemical testing to check for exhaust in coolant. You are welcome to test it yourself if you like.Other than the coolant issue, a degrease and maybe the track rod ends I doubt there’d be much for RWC. Might also need new indicator stalk as it doesn’t return to centre (depends how picky your mechanic is - I can provide a good second hand one if needed).A/C is all there but not cold. One of the hoses has a pinhole leak at the connector. You are welcome to test drive the vehicle and am happy to accomodate any inspections or testing. Please contact me to discuss.
Extras
Original Range Rover rims x 5: 2 with good tyres with 70% tread, 2 with minimal tread and a spare with plenty of tread but older rubber. I also have another Land Rover alloy and a variety of Range Rover Steel rims (Free to good home).Auto transmission service kit (filter, seals etc.)Spare ZF AutoBits and pieces: spare EFI gear, brake pedal rubber, 2nd hand steering box, a whole heap of stuff
Optional (For negotiation)
I also have two other Rangies good for parts: 1987 4 door is complete and has a 91 3.9 Engine and gearbox in place. Needs wiring up and bushes. If you were really keen you could get it on the road but I have it purely for parts (would be a big job to get it on the road). Was considering stroking the engine out and putting it in my Rangie. The engine is supposed to be a good runner. It’s the silver car in the photos.1991 Range Rover was involved in rear collision. Rear panel and bar damage. Engine removed and has generally been gutted. Has salvagable roof lining, some good panels, good dash components. Seats are good etc. Engine and gearbox were put into 87 Rangie. 87 ZF Auto Gearbox and LT230 transfer.
Overall it needs a bit of a tidy up but is exactly what you want in an old Rangie. Would still prefer to spend 6 hours sitting in those comfortable captains chairs than in my GU Patrol (even without A/C). Maybe I can use the cash to get some new seats for the Patrol…
I need to clear everything out ASAP. If you want everything Range Rover I have around the place it’s yours for $2500. I big loss in cash for me but I just need to focus on sorting out a move. I am also happy to help with delivery if you live within a reasonable distance of Ipswich.
