Description
Exceedingly rare 1982 Range Rover Classic four door Right Hand Drive South African Spec.
** VIN is SALLHAMV1AA129923 - eBay's computer would not take it our paperwork shows it as a 1982 which means it was built 1980/1 and sent to South Africa as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down Kit) to the Pretoria plant.
Has the original vertical slot grill c/w the individual headlight surrounds and clear indicator markers
Original lower tailgate with exposed release handle and still has its drop down license plate holder
Exposed hinges all round - Exposed fuel filler area - years before they put a flap over it
Steel bumpers with rubber end caps - Not the wrap round type
Wind up windows with opening Quarter lights and manual seats
Early dash gauge small cluster binnacle
Early dashboard with four round gauges
5 speed manual transmission (rare for year most were 4 speed plus a bolt on overdrive)
Vacuum operated LT230 transfer case
Rear tailgate is actually repairable as its the early type without the 3rd brake light
Has factory installed AC system
Front seats will need recovering - rear bench is missing (One from a 2 door is identical)
Lot of the original carpet and over mat is there & saveable as well as plastic trim.
Engine does turn over it is the original 3.5V8 with SU Carborettors - would probably run knowing this thing
Comes with a professionally sandblasted and hot dipped Discovery 1 galvanized chassis - which incorporates sway bar mounts a better holding area for a plastic fuel tank (included) also a Class III hitch receiver.
Comes with a full set of original Black 3 spoke alloy rims (rare imported from UK)
We have a huge amount of photos of this truck.
Truck appears original the paints roached - we removed the front fenders to inspect the inner shell - astounded that the rockers and posts are all fantastic - this is from the day when Range Rovers were bolted together - (we have on a 2 door been able to unbolt & galvanize the inner shell - will advise) - This would make a great restoration project the inner fenders are actually all sound the only rot is a simple triangle area to each of the upper kick panels in the foot wells the rear floor is perfect and the original ribbed aluminum sheet covering the main area is intact.
There are barely any of these left in the world - let alone something this side of the pond and in its current state is USA eligible - done properly this vehicle would appraise in the 30k plus area especially if restored to a period color such as Lincoln Green - bearing in mind that Land Rover launched the Range Rover in 1970 for years people spent vast amounts having them converted by Monteverdi to 4 doors - this is one of the first export in house models - You will not find another anywhere
For those that know there classic land rovers these are becoming highly sought after as are US importable and a viable and more practical alternative to a Defender in this early configuration it is the quintessential landed gentry's automobile - there is absolutely zero electrical complexity to this model has a total of 4 fuses - suffice to say it is UNloaded basic as it should have stayed.
To clarify this vehicle is not running and requires a full restoration it will take in the region of 15k to restore and paint and reupholster if you undertook it at home - everything major is there - everything else is available from ourselves or the web - It may look daunting to most but it is one big bolt together kit - with having a new chassis to transfer restored parts onto (Even though the old chassis appears sound) however by retaining the old chassis verifies its authenticity as the vin is also stamped on its left front rail. - we would consider retaining the galvanized chassis should the purchaser wish to undertake an original proper refurbishment.
