The 2005 Maserati Spyder was a + $100,000 car when new in excellent condition, just over 27,000 miles. It has astunning body design by one of Italy's greatest designers, Giugiaro,and an all-alloy 4-cam dry-sump V-8 engine designed by Ferrari and builtin Ferrari's engine factory precisely like Ferrari builds engines fortheir own cars, each engine blueprinted and assembled by a singleFerrari engine builder. Maserati's CEO has stated that his mostexpensive supplier is Ferrari!
This Spyder has a full leatherinterior and its options include 'skyhook' sport suspension andcambiocorsa ('racing change') transmission - Maserati's road version ofFerrari's Formula 1 paddle-shift gearbox.
The car's actualdriving experience on the road is not too far from that of the Ferrari575M Maranello: 0-62mph (100km/ph) is 4.8 sec vs. the Maranello's 4.1sec and top speed 176 mph (282 km/hr) v. Maranello's 202 mph (325km/hr). But no one actually drives like that. The Spyder's steeringturn-in and handling are excellent, especially in the 'sport' settingthat stiffens suspension and automatically changes the ECU of thecambiocorsa paddle shift gearbox to very rapid shifts. The car can alsobe driven in full automatic transmission mode but it is not advisablefor any length of time since clutch wear is higher.
