Description

Welcome to the sale of my beloved Mazda MX5.
Reason for sale
I have long-debated selling this car. It belonged to my mother who passed away last year - she bought it pre-registered from Struans in Perth. I registered the car to myself when she passed on last July. I intended to keep the car but, as a car collector myself, I already have another 2 seat convertible and in reality this car would never get used. I've come to the conclusion that it would be better off with someone who could enjoy it and care for it as we have over the years. I would like to retain the option to buy it back should the opportunity arise again in future.
Description
This is a late 2003 Nevada limited edition MX5. I think I read somewhere that they built 1500 of them. They were built in this colour of blue or a frosty metallic green colour. The blue is far nicer and looks good with the grey hood as opposed to the usual black. The hood is like new. This car also benefits from an original hardtop painted in the same colour as the car - this was over £1000 new plus painting. Ideal for winter motoring and it makes the car a very cozy place, not to mention a lot quieter than with the hood up. The car is totally original from end to end, has never caused us a moments bother and is serviced by myself every year (they're a breeze to work on, unlike some of the Italian stuff I own!). The car is MOT'd until August 2016. At MOT time, the car had 4 new tyres, front and rear brake discs and parts replaced, front and rear anti-rollbar drop links replaced and a new rear spring. This work totalled nearly £700 and was done less than 6 month ago.
Exterior
My mum adored this car, going as far as buying a Panda 4x4 to use in winter to save it from the salt. It's only seen 3 out of the 12 winters it's been around. The bodywork and underside have naturally benefitted from this. There is a bubble on the nearside wheel arch which is superficial at the moment but the underside of the car is totally solid. The MOT tester commented on this earlier in the year, saying he rarely sees a Mk2 MX5 this solid. Being a dark metallic, the car does show up marks and scratches quite easily, and there are a couple of minor marks on the paint. There is nothing bad enough to warrant a repaint though. I tend to be very critical in these ads so people know what they're coming to look at. The original alloy wheels are in superb condition, with only a few minor kerb marks. They are shod with 4 brand new Nankang (the mid-range brand of Yokohama) tyres. These tyres replaced 4 Khumo tyres which were, frankly, crap.
Interior
An excellent interior all round. The original cloth upholstery is ageing well with no bolster wear to speak of. The car has its original Nevada carpet mats which have had rubber protectors over them from new meaning they're like new. Electric windows, mirrors etc all work as they should and the car has it's original radio/CD player intact and working.
Driving
The car drives like a totally original standard MX5. No squeaks, rattles, knocks or bangs from anywhere. It's never failed to start first time, has fresh oil and filters etc. The gearbox and clutch are superb, the car goes and stops in a straight line and everything works as it should.
Bad Bits?
Few and far between! The bubble on the rear arch I've already mentioned, the boot mechanism that allows the lid to stay up is not working - this I'm sure would be an easy fix but it's a bit too Krypton factor for me! I'll see if I can do anything with this next time I'm down the garage where the car lives. Aside from that, the car is as honest and original as the day it rolled out the factory.
The Boring stuff
The car currently wears my mums old private plate - I will be retaining this and it is not included in the sale. The car will revert to its original 03 plate.
I require a £200 deposit upon completion of sale with the balance paid either in cash or by bank transfer upon collection. Until the full balance is paid, the car goes nowhere. You are welcome to come and view the car - I am located in Fife in Scotland and am close to Edinburgh airport as well as the main east coast train line. If you want to test drive the car, thats fine, but you must show proof of insurance. The car must be collected within 10 days of the conclusion of sale.
If you want to discuss the car, if I've missed anything from the advert or if you want to make an offer then please call me on 07926 576420. No daft texts asking what the lowest price is etc - I will not answer them.
Thank you very much for viewing.
