THE OVERVIEW
Offered for an appreciating new owner is this unique classic 1981 Mazda RX7 coupe!
Finished in silver metallic over black, this 37 year-old right-hand drive Japanese import shows just under 21,000 miles on its working six-digit odometer. I am told that it is true but I cannot 100% verify this. This first generation RX7 sports a superb running Wankel rotary engine mated to the factory 5 speed manual gearbox. This groovy little hatchback features a recent original color repaint of $8,000, aftermarket hid. headlights, electric windows, upgraded stereo with subwoofer, SSR 14" alloy wheels with Toyo Proxy 205/50 rubber, black velour reclining sports sets, fold down rear seats, a/c and more. It is offered here with clean and clear California title, additional vanity license plate "RX7GT", and the very important California B.A.R. sticker.
Offered here with a low reserve this is a fabulous find for about 1/3 of the price of a 3rd gen RX7!
THE BODY AND TRIM
This exterior of this 1981 Mazda is in truly exceptional 99.99% perfectly dry rust-free condition with a deep lustrous shine to the paint finish and excellent contrasting trim, nice glass and lights. It is in quite amazing condition overall that I would give a solid 9 on a scale of 1-10!
THE INTERIOR
As I hope is articulated in the photos, the interior of this little RX7 is in super clean condition overall with cool white background gauges, crack-free dash, nice black carpeting and modern audio system. Imperfections inside the car include a/c not blowing cold, passenger side window intermittent, door panels confiscated during restoration. Otherwise this is one VERY tidy little classic Japanese cockpit!
THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This 1981 RX7 runs great though a little cold-blooded until warm. It runs very smoothly with eagerness to the redline in each gear. The transmission is smooth and direct, the suspension is firm and quiet and the braking is straight and true. This is one fun little classicnot to mention the inquisitive stares as you motor down the highway from the passenger seat!
