Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is ecstatic to present this fine example of Japanese auto history, the first-generation Mazda Rx-7 GSL-SE!
Introduced in 1978, the first-generation Rx-7 ran all the way up to 1985 and boy did it become legendary over the years. This GSL-SE model is the most coveted of the first edition Rx-7 family. The 1.3 liter, 13B Wankel rotary engine replaced the previous 1.1-liter 12A twin rotor engine in 1984. With 34% more power and 14% more displacement that resulted in 135hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. Mated exclusively to a manual 5 speed transmission with a 7,000-rpm redline, this fuel injected rotary engine rocketed the Rx-7 from 0-60 in under 8 seconds with a top speed of 125mph. Not bad considering this engine is also naturally aspirated. For its final year of production, the Series 3 featured an updated lower front fascia. The SE edition was blessed with larger brake rotors in 1985 and utilized the more common lug nuts as opposed to lug bolts. Upgraded suspension with stiffer springs and shocks were also a bonus feature for the 1985 model.
Take a look at the photos and video and you will see how well this car has been maintained and cared for. The Sophia Red Metallic paint is still shiny with the typical wear one would expect from a 36 year old car, mostly seen on the front fascia and hood. This fine example shows 85,537 undocumented miles on the odometer. Creature comforts come by way of power windows, power brakes, am/fm CD player, manual glass sunroof, air conditioning and tinted windows. The two-tone grey cloth interior has aged better than most with no excessive wear. The alloy wheels are in very good shape with newer tires so you’re ready to hit the road. The radiator has recently been replaced and the CarFax shows no accidents or damage reported. This vehicle comes with an additional painted sunroof panel insert as well if you don’t like the look of the glass sunroof. This car was purchased from Gateway Classic Cars over a year ago and we are more than happy to have it back so someone else can enjoy it..
