Description
Sad to say it, but I am selling my beloved '65 Mercedes. I have owned her since 2012 and am the third owner of the car. I've taken good care of her, but I've decided to move on to other projects now and she needs a new home. I have tried to list everything about the car to make things easier, but I'm bound to have missed something. If you have further questions feel free to message me.
The car has a clean New Mexico title.
Things I have done since owning the car:
-Gas tank and entire fuel system cleaned after purchase.
-Oil change as soon as the car was purchased and regularly since.
-Head gasket and valve cover gasket replaced and head resurfaced and checked February 2013. Was done before taking a trip from New Mexico to Delaware. Car had no problems on the trip.
-Both front brake calipers rebuilt in February 2013.
-Solex carburetor replaced with a more reliable Weber. I no longer have the Solex.
-All new tires (including spare) through Discount Tire in 2013 with only a few thousand miles on them. Kumho Solus KR21
-Installed synthetic sheepskin seat covers. January 2013
-Meyle outer tie rod ends and alignment done in February 2013. I have a receipt for the alignment, but not for the tie rod ends.
-Belden Edge plug wires, sparkplugs (NGK I believe), Bosch cap and rotor. All in March 2013.
-Sanded and repainted interior trunk with Rustoleum gloss black and filled hole at bottom of left quarter panel with bondo.
-Rerouted trunk drain hoses to prevent further rust on the quarter panels.
-Brand new Bosch starter motor this year. The original comes with the car as well.
Previous owner had problems with the mechanical fuel pump and fitted two electric pumps to fix the problem. They work really well and I've never had problems with them. I do have the original mechanical pump that will come with the car too. The ignition switch has stopped working so to start the car you turn the key on and flip a toggle switch that engages the starter. This works just fine to start it. A new ignition switch is over $200 new.
The car runs very well and moves a lot better with the Weber carb compared to the old Solex. The brake master cylinder has unfortunately started leaking where it mates to the brake booster. As a result the car is not drivable because the leak is so bad. Once the master cylinder is replaced the car will be ready to drive again just fine.
Fuel sending unit needs to be replaced for the fuel gauge to work.
Previous owner had the car under a cover for a long period of time and water was trapped on the roof and trunk causing them both to rust. The roof is partially sanded to remove the rust and waxed to protect it. The trunk was sanded and painted, but will need to be redone. I've kept the car very clean inside and out and it looks very good for the most part. there are a few bad dings and some spots of rust bubbling. Not too surprising considering it's age. The most notable damage is on the drivers door, which can be seen in the pictures. The seats are in very good condition. The back has one small tear, but looks practically new otherwise. Passengers seat is similar to the back and the drivers seat is worn and has some slight seperation. Carpets are about the same as the seats, except it's missing the center hump carpet. I have an extra piece of carpet that doesn't seem to fit anywhere. The dash has cracks due to it spending time in the New Mexico heat and the shelf behind the rear seats is faded and torn too. Door panels are all very nice and all doors latch very well. Headliner has some discoloration, but has held up very well and does not sag. The hubcaps are two pieces. I only have the center on as I like the look better. It comes with both though.
Comes with two sets of keys, original owners manual, a few oil filters, distributor rotors, contact set and the others extras I mentioned already.
The car has a fresh coat of wax and is being kept inside.
Thanks for looking!
