Description

What's Up EBay!
I am listing my 1970 Mercedes 220d which is also a very desirable 4 speed with factory AC. The lived predominately in CA and AZ until it was shipped to New England in 2016 which is why this car is relatively rust free. It does have a couple spots of rust which I captured in the pictures but the they are only surface rust and therefore can be repaired incredibly easily.
Car runs perfectly and cruses at 70 mph with no shimmys or anything of concern. The engine itself only has 50k on it because in 2001 the original engine was replaced with a brand new one at a local Mercedes dealership. If you know these cars you know the engine is a million mile engine so if correct it has several lifetimes worth of miles left on it. In fact Africa's taxi industry in completely reliant on these W115 & 114 diesels to this day which is a testiment to their build quality and reliability.
To me this car is perfect for a restoration and would be at minimal cost because it is straight and true which makes it a great starting point. Also this car can run on biodiesel as it currently sits and can be made to run of waste oil with a small investment. These cars are synonymous with the vegetable oil conversion and therefore have kits specifically designed for them at again minimal cost. Also doomsday preppers might want to consider this vehicle because not only does diesel not go bad like its' gasoline counterparts but also can be made to run off several household items like kerosene, grain alcohol, vegetable oil etc. Additionally this is one of the only cars that will still run after a electromagnetic pulse.
Since purchasing the vehicle I have made several improvements. The front window and seal has been replaced, all the door and and trunk seals were replaced, and the rear window seal was also replaced. Additionally the front floors were welded back to the chassis, which was done by a professional fyi. I have also replaced both front and rear shocks and the passenger side front upper and lower control arms and also have the parts to do the drivers side which will be included in this purchase. Also there have been other odds and ends that I attended to, replacing the fan clutch and adjusting the valves come to mind, but they are not anything too serious and therefore will not be listed.
There are some items which still require attending to but I will be providing all the parts you need to take care of them I just happen to not have the time to do it. The issue lies within the heating and ac and I will attempt to explain the issues as best I can. These cars have two separate systems for both heat and ac and the only thing they share really is the vents the air is blown through. The heat isn't working at the moment because the blower motor for that system needs to be rebuilt. I am including that kit with the purchase so the next owner can take care of it. Everything else in the heating system seems to work fine especially the heater core because even without the assistance of the blower motor it makes my cab very warm while driving. With the ac the compressor froze which is why it is not working. It looks to me that it was converted to R134 but the person who did it either put the wrong lubricant in the system or none at all which caused the compressor to seize. With the purchase of this car I am including a new compressor., a new compressor clutch and a new belt for the compressor. That along with a charge should take care of it but you won't know that until you make the first repair.
If you go on Haggerty and input my vehicles information you will see that this type of car can be worth anywhere from $6k to $23k depending on condition. I would rate this card either good or something between fair and good. If your a diesel or Mercedes enthusiast because this is the quintessential diesel and quintessential Mercedes in my opinion. If you take it home I assure you will not be disappointed.
