NO RESERVE, Goes to the highest & last bidder

Here’s another great running & driving accident-free vintage Mercedes we’ve acquired recently for our Ebay bidders. According to the previous owner, this nice 240D sold new in California. The original owner brought the car here to the Pacific Northwest many years ago, so it has spent the majority of its life driving our snow-free roads and never exposed to metal-eating road salts. From the moment I laid eyes on this clean sedan the amount of respect and care given over the years is pretty obvious.
Reluctantly, the Mercedes was recently sent over to us and is awaiting it's next caretaker. I’ve got to tell you, having driven the car almost daily for the past month, what a treat! Where else will you find this kind of craftsmanship, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (25+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one great ride? Please feel free to contact me with questions or to make an offer. My name is Mark and my direct number is 206/914-1173 (texts are OK). You’re welcome and encouraged to come inspect this outstanding boulevard cruiser here at my Auburn warehouse.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
Ever driven one of these Mercedes with the thrifty, bullet-proof 2.4-liter diesel engine? They’re nice in-town and highway cars. After one learns to manage the acceleration curve, they're great fun to drive. The W123 chassis Mercedes constructed from the middle-70’s through the late 1980’s has always been a favorite of mine (and many consider this vintage to be the last hand-built, truly high-quality Benz). Take a look at the posted photos and I am sure you’ll agree. What you'll see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. This sedan has obviously been garage-kept because the overall condition is exceptionally good. Climb over, under and throughout; I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Benz hates rust, and you WON’T find a thing to worry about here. Yes, western Washington and Oregon are famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. If at all, we’ll see a day or two day of light snow. Everyone panics and stays home (even before COVID forced it on us all). Having personally owned dozens of Mercedes over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for their style, mechanical reliability, and overall driving experience. I’m convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive this one as well.

CONDITION:
In total, this is an exceptionally clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free car. I take pride in the vehicles we offer here on Ebay and feel that you should know as much about the vehicle as possible. Accordingly, here’s a list of the good and a few small things needing attention: take literally six or seven seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 2.4L inline four diesel engine starts immediately every time with only seconds of starter cranking. The four-speed transmission shifts smoothly with NO clutch slippage. The car idles, runs and drives-out like a diesel Mercedes is supposed to – strong, immediate oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no brake pull or alignment issues! The fuel system is completely stock and has NEVER been exposed to component-destroying biodiesel or a silly homemade conversion. There is NO excessive engine smoke, even after sitting at idle for many minutes (All of the posted photos were taken with the engine idling on 9/28/2021). I’ve now put almost three hundred miles on over the past month and freeway cruised at 60 MPH.
CONDITION:
The paint has been resprayed to the rare factory-original gold metallic color sometime in the last few years and is in excellent overall condition. There are NO front-end rock chips or flaking clearcoat. Though I’m not an expert, I’ve not found any evidence of accidents or body repair. Good chrome and exterior trim all around, too. The front fenders, doors, rear quarters, and floor pans all appear solid; in fact, the entire undercarriage is in excellent condition for a 38-year-old car! No other real body flaws to point out. The factory jack and spare are in the trunk well. I'm not an expert, but have looked the exterior over closely and see no evidence of past repaired body damage anywhere.
It’s pretty rare to come across a vintage Mercedes with a factory Becker radio still in place (much less actually working). I appreciate the modern Kenwood stereo with CD player that’s installed currently. About the only encountered flaws are a missing antenna and the two springs that hold the hood open (we’ve used a wooden hood rod for the task).
Most 240D’s had steel wheels with wheel covers, but some owners opted for Bundt alloys instead. I don’t know if these factory alloys came on the car when new, but all four are straight and true. They’re wrapped with good 195/70R14 Michelin touring radials with at least 75-80% tread remaining.
Take another good look at the interior pics. Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these buckets for hours. The factory MB-Tex upholstery is in good overall shape. The rear bench hasn’t suffered the fate of most other vintage W123 models and has its original MB-Tex on both the base and back rest. There are a couple small punctures as pictured. The original dash pad is excellent and crack-free.
The A/C will need to be looked over to become functional and the heater fan is very finicky. Everything under the hood appears stock and present. I don’t know if the odometer is reflecting true miles, but both it and the speedometer work well. There’s no evidence of any water leakage on the headliner and you can see from the photos how decent the factory carpets are. I always appreciate driving with a power sunroof and this one opens (and closes) easily. From years of experience with other Benz, I always ease any motor strain when closing by helping pull it forward.
Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive cross-country in this car!
Please check the photos over and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid. You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the 240D at my Auburn, WA warehouse and take it for a test drive. As a respected Ebay seller with many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Mercedes runs and drives well AND that it is accurately represented to you! Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up as NO used vehicle is ever perfect. As always, the car’s being sold “as-is, where-is” with a clean, free & clear Washington State title.
Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Please feel free to contact me directly through Ebay’s message system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:
A $500 deposit (paid through Ebay) is required within 24 hours of the auction’s end. The balance of the purchase price is due by cash (in-person only), a wire transfer or other certified funds within seven days of the auction closing. I can accept credit/debit cards or a bank ACH payment for the balance but will need to first send an invoice from our card/ACH processor and will include the 3.25% fee charged by them (ACH payments are only charged a 1.5% fee). Please remember you are bidding to buy, and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.
If you decide to have the Mercedes shipped home, there are many vehicle transporters available. While the company chosen is the responsibility of the BUYER, I ship vehicles regularly and have access to the nationwide Central Dispatch system. I can check to see what typical delivery costs have been to your area recently and we can then post a transport offer for the car at a fair price. Usually, a shipper is lined up within just a few days. You’ll pay the delivery driver COD when they arrive with the vehicle. No upfront deposit or other hassles.
The Benz can be stored free-of-charge at my location for up to fourteen days after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
Final Note: I list and sell my vehicles exclusively here on Ebay. If you see them advertised on other sites BEWARE: you are being swindled. We've recently come across more than a dozen of our past auction vehicles (with my Ebay pics and descriptions lifted verbatim) on the scam site "Classic Cars for Sale" also known as "TOPCLASSICSALE.COM".
