Description
Please read carefully:
Listed for sale is a 1973 Mercedes Benz 300 SEL 4.5 liter V8 sedan. This vehicle would be suitable for an extensive restoration or for parts. It is a rare model, with only 2,500 or so manufactured. The odometer reads ~47,000 miles, although I do not know if the actual mileage is higher (since it has a 5 digit odometer). I bought the car intending to restore it, but unfortunately did not have the time to spend on it.
This car does not run and has been parked for quite a few years and could be considered a "barn find." It ran as recently as two or three years ago, and the engine does turn over, although it cuts out quickly, likely due old clogged fuel lines, old fluids, etc. The electrics power on, with lights, Alpine stereo and speakers, windows and sunroof, and pretty much all other electrical components fully functioning. The car is missing the air-bags for the hydro-pneumatic suspension as well as shocks, and therefore it does not easily roll. A flatbed with a winch will be required to tow the car away.
Cosmetically, the body is mostly straight with the exception of a moderate dent on the driver's side fender, a crease in the rear license plate section, and a couple very small dings here and there, all of which could be repaired by a bodyshop. The windshield is cracked and will need replacement, although all other glass is perfect. Chrome panels have a few various dings, but most pieces are straight. The paint is peeling and will need an entire respray. There is a repairable amount of rust in the 4 wheel wells, which is not entirely pictured in the photos above. The rocker panel sections, as well as a couple small spots near the hood and truck, also have minimal rust. There is a moderate amount of surface rust throughout the components located on the undercarriage of the vehicle, as well as some in the engine bay, however this rust is mostly superficial, and the frame appears solid as far as I am aware.
Interior is in restorable condition with some parts needing replacement, others intact. Headliner, dash components, gauge cluster, door panels, and rear seats are all very good. The front driver's seat (and possibly passenger's) will need reupholstery.
Some smaller parts and trim pieces (which I bought to repair certain cosmetic issues), extra mats, hubcaps, original tools, oil filters, etc. are included in the sale.
The title is missing, however I will provide you with a bill of sale and old registration paperwork which is all that is needed to register vehicles older than 2001 in Rhode Island and certain states. Check your state's registration requirements before purchasing if you are planning to restore and drive this vehicle.
This vehicle is located in a residential garage, and does not easily roll due to the lack of suspension components. Aware of this, the buyer will be responsible for paying to have the vehicle towed out and shipped to the desired destination.
These cars are appreciating steadily, selling for upwards of $30k and often much higher in good condition, and are becoming more and more sought after as rare, classic vehicles by collectors (hemmings.com has some beautiful examples). I hope this car will go to someone who appreciates these great cars and will enjoy the process of restoring it or puts its parts to good use in another W108/109 Mercedes. I would only recommend this car only be purchased by someone who has extensive experience in car restoration, or who is looking to use this car for parts.
I encourage you to message me with any questions before you purchase this vehicle.
This vehicle is sold as-is. All information listed is accurate to the best of my knowledge. Defects listed should not be considered comprehensive, and more may be found that are not reflected in this post. Buyer assumes all responsibility and liability upon purchase. There are no warranties or guarantees given. All sales are final.
