Description

This is a desirable US specification 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 Sedan.
I purchased this car and then had a large collection of 300's fall into my hands and I don't have the room so selling this and a few others.
I'll start by telling you what is wrong with the car:
The wood needs to be redone. It is decent but the front door surrounds are off and in bad shape. The drivers side top of the door panel needs to be redone, it has small cuts in it from the driver resting his elbow out the window.
The rear seat has a split on the passenger side right along the seam. It can't be seen in the photos and really no need to repair it in my eyes so I didn't. Other issues are minor trim issues. The spear along the passenger side has a one inch crease in it that did not get through to the paint or sheet metal on the car. All of the other trim is very good original with no pitting.
The 6.3 was the mightiest of the Mercedes for that era. It was the fastest production car built and came with an equally as hefty price tag. Less than 7000 were built over a several year period.
This one has been very well maintained by the last three owners. All records from 1989 to date are included with the car. The car starts, runs and drives very well and everything works in the car including the air suspension.
The car was repainted once in its original color and the quality is very good. There are some blemishes but overall, the car is extremely presentable. The trim is also in very nice condition. The doors open and shut easily and have no sag or gap issues at all. The hood and trunk gaps are also excellent. The glass is all good on the car as well.
The interior is very nice original with only the issues I mentioned previously as concerns. All of the switched, gauges and controls work. The instruments all work as well. The car starts easily and gives the familiar chug that only a Merceds V-8 of that era gives. It does not smoke or leak at all. The transmission shifts into gear well and shifts through all the gears smoothly as well.
Inside all of the controls work including all four windows (the rears move slowly), radio, and heater controls.
Under the hood is the original 6.3 liter engine which has strong compression on all cylinders and runs well. It is a clean but not detailed engine bay.
The undercarriage is clean and totally rust free. The car was a southwestern car for many years and has never had rust or rust repair on it. The trunk and trunk floor are spotless original condition. The car has its original owners manual and associated booklets in great condition and original to THIS car. It has its original jack with spare as well, properly stowed int he trunk.
These cars have become very desirable over the last 20 years, I encourage you to look at recent auction results. I am pricing this car extremely fairly. Google search the exact term below to see what the same car in much worse condition sold recently for at auction.
'Bonhams Simeone 300SEL 6.3' and click on the first result. Click on the third result for the SCM review of the actual car and sales result.
This car is priced to sell and I will consider reasonable offers for the duration of the auction. I can be reached at 860-883-3998 Thanks and good luck bidding. John
