Description
1978 Mercedes Benz 300D for sale.
This is a 1 owner Georgia Mercedes that has been in the family since new. It was originally used as a Estate car and always garage kept.
The car was used sparingly from 1978-1998 and then properly stored from 1998 until 2008 when the car went through a complete recomissioning at Mercedes Benz Atlanta at 19,210 miles. This included belts, hoses, brake calipers, pads, rotors, tires, battery, all fluids exchanged, multiple gaskets, valve adjustments, new radiator, original radio rebuilt. The bill on that service was $6,800 in 2008 money, or around $10,000 today.
Since then the car has been started or driven weekly to keep everything in working order and to prevent algea in the diesel.
Of course this being a "pre-turbo" W123, it does not have as much zip as the later turbo models, but this very tight OM617 still has ample power to cruise at highway speeds.
A recent service in 2021 included a new battery, 4 new goodyear tires, a rebuilt A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, soneedless to say, the A/C works great.
I inherited the car in 2020, and brought it up here and put it in the garage, tinkering with it every few weekends making sure that everything works the way it should, from a cigar lighter, to a speedy antenna. She looks as good underneath as she does on top, with factory markings on most of the suspension parts, cosmoline present under the hood and underneath, not even a hint of rust on anything, and a exhaust system that is 44 years old, but looks excellent. Jacking points, bottoms of fenders, ect. are all rust free, as I indicated earlier.
The paint, chrome and stainless about as nice as I've seen on a 44 year old original paint carabsolutely no rust, door dings, fading, discoloration, etc. There was a door ding on the passenger fender that I had PDR'd last year, and they did such a good jobthe ding is no longer existent.
The interior looks even more amazing, with perfect carpet, seats, dashno degradation of the horse hair seat bottoms, the windlace around the doors shows no marks(very hard for a light colored interior)the dash of course has no cracksand the back seat has never been utilized.
Included is the unused medical kit, original spare (never used), tool kit, (still in plastic bag), metal warranty plate, owners manuals, maintenance book, service records which show a excellent linear aggregation of miles, all (3) original keysthe only thing I cant seem to find at the moment is the window sticker (we recently moved, its "somewhere, but no promises).
This car would be a excellent addition to a W123 collection, or a perfectly capable driver for the next 30 years that will never leave you on the side of the road.
My 300D is for sale on other venues, and is subject to sale outside of ebay. Payment will be by cash in person, or wire transfer. Clean and clear title in hand. Happy to help arrange shipping insofar as I have excellent carrier that I use to ship cars around the Country.
My other eBay has 500+ 100% positive feedback, I created this one to deal with the new tax laws and not to intermingle them.
