Description
Selling for a friend who is a professional car restorer. This is one of his personal cars and was in the same owner's hands for nearly 30 yrs. Current owner is believed to be the 3rd or 4th owner of this special car.
In 1973, the 450 SLC coupe was the top of the Mercedes Benz line. Its sophisticated Euro 2+2 layout and styling cues were unlike any other car on the road. A responsive and high torque-generating 4.5 liter dual overhead cam V-8 gave it authority as a tourer for the gentry. Build quality is spectacular (note stainless steel clad door jambs). Approx. 101K original miles show on the odometer. The vehicle comes with decades of meticulously kept service records, technical manuals and original owner's manual. Updates include: Double timing-chain & tensioner, repaint in original silver color, both done years ago. Current maintenance/updates include custom larger-bore exhaust system, renewed hoses, filters & seals. New rubber suspension/steering bushings. See photos.
Factory sunroof. Rear pillar window vanes show none of the deterioration common on some SLC's. Black leather upholstery has been renewed with factory materials including internal padding. Door panels are also immaculate. Back seat looks almost unused (slight fade on one spot on left side rear seat-back). Body is straight with intact hardware and chrome. The only other known flaw is a 2-1/2" long line of thin rust bubbles on the trunk lid edge. See photo.
The enlarged-bore exhaust system lends a throaty exhaust note and increases engine responsiveness and power output.
A reasonable buy-it-now price has been listed, especially considering the amazing condition and provenance of this car. The owner is looking for offers fairly close to this number. Please message me with your questions. Thanks for looking !
