Description

1975 Mercedes Benz 450 SE (W116)

Please read carefully and enjoy my composition below!
Let me introduce you my Matilda.
Up for auction very rare Mercedes 450SE (W116 body) with 55,000 verified original miles in beautiful unmolested condition. Yes, there are plenty of short wheel base W107 convertibles available in such condition but you can hardly find a full size classic sedan as most of them were used on daily basis and ended up at scrap yards or still exist in poor condition with high mileage. If you are looking for classic Mercedes sedan and cannot afford W116 - 6,9 (which in the same condition would be around $50.000) it is probably the best W116 available for sale in North America, it is a rare chance to get W116 in collectors condition with powerful 4,5 liter V8, which drives like a muscle car. W116 was 1974 Car of The Year, one of the best Mercedes ever built. I was told that in next several years the prices for them will go up, so, It could be a good investment. W126 is too new to be classic (most of people even drive them daily) and W108 is cool but doesn’t have such performance (unless it is 6,3 for $35,000+) and for 4,5 in such condition you are looking at $20.000+ (in several years the price for W116 probably will be the same). So, why keeping money in the bank and getting 1% annual interest rate? J
The car has never seen winter, never been in an accident, all paint is original, garage kept and I don’t even drive it in the rain checking weather forecast before I drive it. The car doesn’t need anything (only clock doesn’t work). Engine and transmission is in excellent condition, no leaks, no rust anywhere on the body, no water leaks after touchless car washes. Enjoy electric sunroof. It becomes like convertible when you open it. Interior is mint: no cracks in wood, all clean - like from the factory. Very beautiful classic car color combination: ivory exterior and palomino interior. There are several tiny dents on the body here and there. My body guy asked me if I want to pull them out, but I said no, they are so minor, you can hardly see them as well as some accurate chip touch ups. You should realize she came from production line in 1975 and was driven about 1300 miles a year, not stored (which is very good!), so don’t expect museum condition. But I would say it is pretty close to it. I am including the link for photo web site where you can see 187 high resolution pictures of the car. Just click on the size and the picture you want to see and it will open.
I have complete paperwork package including original bill of sale, manuals, service records, registrations, invoices and receipts. Mileage is true and all papers prove that. According to the paperwork, the car was purchased in Chicago in 1975 and pretty soon started its’ travel because of re-location of the first owner. She accompanied the first and then the second owner to Washington, Oregon, California, Kansas and Georgia. I purchased the car last year from the third owner in Georgia. I really want to keep this car and I love it and invested over $6000 to fix all her imperfections since I bought it. But I own three Mercedes now – two classic (W116 and W126 420SEL – I will list it soon) and one main car GLK350, and I feel that I can afford only one classic, two is too much for me as it is the same right thing as to have one wife! So I decided to list them both – whichever goes first and keep and fall in love with another.
The work performed on the car since I became the owner in September 2014:

2. Ignition control module (factory refurbished part)

4. tie-rods and ball joints (LEMFÖRDER)
