Stately, limousine-like yet stealthy, it is little wonder why Mercedes-Benz’s W126 series is its most successful and longest-running S-class model. As the ‘L’ in its name implies, the 1991 W126 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL is the long-wheelbase flagship sedan of 1991 for Mercedes-Benz. This low mileage 560SEL comes from only two-owners, always garage-kept, overall original and well-maintained with only 14,183 original miles!
Made in November 1990 at Mercedes’ Sindelfingen, Germany factory, it left the factory with the following options – rear footrests (code 226); front passenger airbag (code 291); storage box in front tray (code 300); anti-theft warning (code 551); automatic climate control (code 581); rear window defroster (code 592); Becker Grand Prix 2000 radio (code 757); seat heaters, front, and rear (codes 872 and 873).
Being the flagship, the 1991 560SEL executive sedan has plenty of luxury features. It has heated front and rear seats, automatic climate control, a sunroof, leather upholstery, and wood trim. The steering column is electronically-adjustable and the sedan features headlight wipers. Plus, as a 1991 model, this W126 has better features than the earlier models. It has better HVAC and cruise control systems, standard ABS, improved suspension and steering, and better switchgear.
Finished in desirable black (code DB040), this car’s paint and trim are in overall great condition. The body is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the trunk is clean and has a full-sized spare tire. The body-colored bumpers with gray trim fit tightly to the body.
This big Benz rolls on Firestone all-season radials, size 205/65R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a factory alloy wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very good order.
Under the hood with the big grille, is a 5.5L SOHC 16-valve V-8 engine (code M117.968). Backing up this motor is a 4G-TRONIC four-speed automatic transmission. Four-speed automatic transmission has a new topographical sensor that improved the drivability by monitoring the vehicle's position (flat surface, incline, or decline) and the position of throttle pedal. This prevents the unintended acceleration when coasting downhill without the frequent braking to maintain the speed. The Second Series has a “hill-hold” feature that prevents the vehicle from rolling back suddenly when disengaging the brake and engaging the throttle pedals at the steep incline.
Driver convenience features include electronic climate control, cruise control, power sunroof, power windows, power locks, power assisted steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, telescoping and tilting steering column, power antenna and headlamp wipers/washers.
Safety equipment include dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes.
Inside, the combination of leather Cream Beige and burled wood accents present a striking contrast to the exterior black. The leather front bucket seats and rear bench seat are in very good order, as is the matching carpet and headliner. The large, four-spoke steering wheel offers great contrast. The instrument panel features a full array of gauges while the inner door panels are in good, original order. The center console, complete with gated shifter and a Becker Grand Prix 2000 AM/FM stereo with cassette deck round out the interior.
