I was involved in a front bump in March,My Insurance company advised it was not economically viable to replace the
Bonnet wing, grill and number plate so gave me the option to purchase the car back from Insurers which I did and got the car repaired and back on the road. So this was given a CAT C status, I bought parts and had them fitted in March driving ever since.

Until I acquire my new car in January 2016 I will not be able to release this car as I need for work, commute.
I do not expect full payment of the car until I acquire my car, but do require a non refundable deposit will secure the car, 50% of total cost of car.
I will have the car valeted inside and out for you on taking ownership.

As stated in condition above, I am being totally transparent about the small collision that did not effect any part of the internal engine but the skins of the car (Bonnet and side wing and grill)
The bonnet warning lamp comes on Car computer, It will not effect MOT, It states bonnet open, due to a sensor not being replaced and sensor re exhaust comes on intermittent.Warning light comes on and had tetsed today 11.09.15 0n

yes Smudger - Even something like a dented wing and a replacement bumper can write a car off. If you own a twelve-year-old car worth £1000 and someone hits you from behind the repair bill can easily be £700. This will cause your insurer to write it off. You have the option to buy the wreck back and repair it at your own expense, which, especially if you use a second hand bumper, might well cost a lot less than buying a new car.
If you chose to let the car go then a dealer may well buy it, repair it, and sell it as a cat C at a good profit.
My last car had been front-ended and needed two wings, front panel, bumper, headlamps and a bonnet. (Got all parts of a rear-ended vehicle from a scrappy.) Current one has a ding in the drivers door and a slight deformation of the wing. I bought both for roughly 50% of their 'normal' value. (Haven't rectified at all, as damage hardly noticeable.)
Because a car has been a Cat C total-loss, but has had a Vehicle Identity Check and passed an MOT should not load/increase an insurance premium.
Most insurance companies have no problem insuring a car that has been repaired and has category C or D on the logbook nor should you receive any kind of loading on the premium. Remember, most insurance repaired cars do not have category C or D on the logbook so why should it make a difference. You should always tell your insurers all information about your car including that your car is a Category D or C repaired vehicle.
I and my wife both drive category C and D cars and insurance cost have not been loaded.
