Description
My Beloved Mercedes CLK 230 Convertible Auto
I purchased this in February 2015 after 4 MONTHS of searching. Looking on ebay today I can find one better and its £4k. This is a very reluctant sale, I bought this to keep long term but change in my work means I will be going back to high miles and this just simply would not be suitable. I will not accept less than the starting bid, if it don't sell I will keep it in storage.
Documentation - MOT Feb 2016, it passed with no advisories. I have an independent inspection of it after I bought it and he came up with 2 things. Slight oil leak which Mercedes tell me is from torque settings on bolts that were recalled. Very minor. Play in wheel bearings, Mercedes tell me they are adjustable anyway so not an issue. The Roof, which if goes wrong will effectively write the car off, I took to Hertfordshire Merx (now Prestige Motor Co) leading Merc specialist. Roof completely checked and replaced one wire. Perfect order. Service history book was lost, so I have an email from Mercedes UK advising it was serviced by them at Colindale 3rd Oct 2002 at 56,714 miles. I also have another garage sending me details of their history and I serviced it at 93202 miles in Feb. Currently just over 95,000. From May 2009 it has done just 9000 miles! I also have list of all owners from DVLA. Original delivery receipt when it was new and owners manual. Dash is saying service due in 7 days but it has done 2000 miles since last service so they obviously didn't reset it.
Bodywork - Only 2 things other than age related bits here and there. The check strap on drivers side, snapped and it has created a lump on the door (see picture). Bodyshop quoted £50 to pull it back, no lasting damage. Rear bumper has patch of laquer peal and little cracks. Rest of the car when polished looks amazing. I have a replacement check strap included in the sale, whoever does the door they can fit this.
Interior - Avant Garde model so luxury leather, 2 stitches missing on drivers seat apart from that it is perfect. I have leather treated when I bought it. Comes with electric seats, my son seems to have jammed the passenger seat when he dropped a £10 note underneath, I will try and sort this. Cruise Control, although never used it, its too much fun to drive. Air con, brand new double din pioneer cd player. Electric windows, central locking all in perfect working order, everything works. The boot key lock has seized which is common as no one uses them, boot works on key and inside switch
Wheels - these are 18" AMG alloys. They are £500 plus if you can find a set. To be fair I wanted to refurb them, 1 is kurbed others are just minor scuffs. Rear tyres brand new Pirellis front 2 although in good condition are budget tyres.
Engine - Completely standard, immaculate condition
Rust - I hoovered some minor dust in the spare wheel bay, there is not a single bit of rust I can find on the bodywork, for these that is rare.
Overall this is by far the best "fun" car I have owned. It is exceptionally fast, comfortable, not bad on fuel being a 2.3 supercharged engine. With 2 kids in the back with the roof down this has to be my favourite car I have ever owned. I drove BMW 330 convertible, Saab 93 Convertible & Volvo V90 Convertible all similar money and this car was streets ahead of all of them.
SERIOUS BIT - No test drives without your insurance certificate giving evidence you can drive other cars. No shipping oversees, what you do with it once you have bought it is your business. Cash on collection, or online bank payment which shows as received in my account before it goes anywhere. IF YOU BID AND WIN, THE CAR IS YOURS AFTER YOU PAY. DO NOT TRY AND HAGGLE ETC YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Understand I do not want to sell this and my wife will tell you different but I don't have to either. It will go no where for less than starting bid. Do not waste your time emailing me or calling me offering £1500, I wont even bother replying. Look on Ebay and Autotrader and anywhere else, go and see as many Mercedes CLK Convertibles as you can find, drive them and then come and see this one, the ones on here now for £2500 - £3000 are not as good as this one, the one for £4k is superb. This is somewhere in between.
Call me for viewings 07795 285283, car is located in Hitchin Hertfordshire.
