Description
Overview:This is a highly original W108 250S with the twin Zeniths. I am thinning out my collection and have tried to provide detailed pictures and videos so there are no surprises. Please be sure to read the entire description before bidding.
Cosmetics:
Paint appears to be original on all body panels except the front fenders and hood, where you can see it’s been resprayed. Yes there is rust but the underside is largely rust free with factory undercoating, solid floors and frame rails and no previous accident damage - cross member and front frame rails all appear untouched. In my estimation, the areas that require attention are the front fenders, rockers and door sills. Again, please see the pictures for more detail.
Glass is in excellent condition with minimal pitting on the windscreen and original “Sekurit” markings on all windows. Chrome work is also excellent on bumpers, door handles and front grill. In many respects, the interior is in time warp condition, with no rips or tears in the MB Tex, no sagging seat cushions, no scuffs or marks on the seatbacks or door cards and excellent bright work. Wood trim has been re-stained and is free of cracks or visible damage. The dash has one, small visible crack just to the right of the instrument binnacle. The headliner appears to be original with no sagging or staining, although there are a few, small holes. Carpeting is excellent except in the driver’s footwell where it has come up.
Mechanical:
Recent tune up makes it easy to cold start and I drove it 50 miles back to my house after the tune up. I have regularly exercised it since with 5 - 15 mile drives. Absolutely no driveway shuffling or starting the car from cold and shutting off right away. If I start it, I make sure it gets warmed up to operating temperature properly and driven.
Transmission shifts old-school MB firm and does not slip. Reverse and drive engage instantly.
Steering is dead on center with no shakes or shimmies.
Suspension feels good although I hear a clunking from the driver’s rear which may be the rear shock mount.
Brakes pedal feels good with no shimmies and the car stops with confidence.
Parking brake is completely functional.
Electric:
All headlights and parking lights work. All electric windows work (see videos).Original Becker radio is fully functional and is accompanied by a period correct, optional Becker cassette deck that lives in the glovebox. The power attennae was added by the owner and the switch is mounted on the transmission tunnel. HVAC fan appears to be non operational. Please note the odometer only reads to 5 digits so true mileage is unknown.
Summary:
This is a nicely preserved W108 that would be worthy of a full restoration or drive it and enjoy it while attending to a few items. Or just drive it!
