MERCEDES 500SL R129 1991 140,000KM

This is a really nice and collectable R129 series Mercedes 500SL convertible. Comes with the removable hardtop and the softtop underneath. Great colour combo! This was a Japanese import back in 2000. Been registered and owned by the same owner ever since (20-plus years) until a few months ago. Has always been garaged, and it shows. The photos give a good sense of how nice the body, trim, glass and wheels are. The interior is OK - some wear to the seats and the trim on the hardtop. The carpets are good, the woodwork Ok as well. The thing I really like is that this car is all original down to the radio-cassette. Has the 12-stack CD player under the rear 'seat', area. Comes with its working remote control too. Very hard to find. Drives real nice. Has a lot of pick-up, no smoke or noises. Sits on the road as it should and brakes as it should. In other words, this is a really nice driver. There's nothing worse than getting into one of these and they drive all over the place. This doesn't. Still registered. I haven't done a roadworthy check but it shouldn't need much. Tyres are good. It doesn't leak fluid or drop any oil. Has an immobiliser, and also brand new ignition barrel and keys.I have bought a few new bits for it - I was going to do it up and keep it but Covid has killed that idea.
OK, I have described and photographed the good, now for the not so good.
- roof hydraulics need repair - they leak, and as such the roof doesn't come off. Easy repair and I can provide the name of a garage I recommend to do it should you wish. If you want to do it yourself (and you are a masochist) kits are available
- electrics are a bit average - mostly working but a bit messy,
- stereo works but CD player and FM band need work (good news is the tape deck works!),

Have a look on the major car selling sites - these things are now going on average for over $30,000, with the majority over $40,000. They are fast appreciating. They are the loveliest of the SLs (and I own a Pagoda so that's saying something!). This one needs a few thousand to make it good and a few more to make it fantastic.
Take the opportunity to buy this at a great price.
