FOR SALE BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER
I am selling a beautiful car that my wife and I have owned since we took delivery in 1984. We factory ordered and paid for this car from the Mercedes dealer, Classic Motors in Westmont, Illinois on July 18, 1983.
I feel that it is in very good condition and we have maintained it very well over the years…if it needed something done to it, we had it taken care of. I have every single service and maintenance record since the day we took delivery. We have had this car at our Arizona home for the past 17 years.
The car still drives like a dream and I would say that there is very little that needs to be done to it, mechanically or cosmetically. It is 100% factory original, except for the replacement hoses and mechanical parts……and the headlight assemblies…see note below. It has never seen the rain or snow and it has always been kept in our garage. No rust and it’s never had any paint work. The rear bumper was replaced years ago. I’ve kept it clean and waxed it at least once a year.
I drive the car for a couple of miles each month and it starts right up. The battery is 3 months old.
Here’s what it needs:
1. To pass the Arizona emissions test, it will need a Fuel Idler Valve. It’s a $170 part plus the labor to install it. I’ve been quoted $900 to have it done. The car runs very well, but it needs this part not only for emissions, but it idles a little fast.
2. I replaced the original two lens headlamps with a one piece lamp….I was certain that I kept the original lenses, but so far I haven’t been able to find them…I’m still looking. You can buy the factory lenses for approximately $200 per headlight.
3. The horn does not work….maybe a fuse?
4. I have not checked the cruise control, but it worked the last time that I had it up to highway speed. The air conditioner works just fine.
5. The soft top had not seen daylight for over 10 years. When we took the hardtop off this past week to take pictures, I was surprised to see that the blue cloth top was in excellent condition, but dusty. The rear plastic window was dirty, but not clouded and it should polish up like new. We did not fully extend the cloth top, as we wanted to just see its condition. The hardtop was only taken off about a half dozen times over the years.
6. There are a couple of small oil drip spots on my garage floor…probably from lack of use. I have not had it up on a rack to have this evaluated.
7. I do not have the stand for the hard top….never needed it!

As I mentioned, I have every single receipt since day one which will be included with the car, including the factory confirmation of the order.
I factory ordered the car, with the following factory options:

WHITE WITH BLUE LEATHER AND WHITE HARDTOP
Leather, Blaupunkt Cassette LSD radio, Cruise, ABS, right mirror, power antenna, alarm, rear vinyl seat, armrest, air conditioning, tinted glass and heated front seats.
I have the original sales receipt showing these options, the customs entry number and date (February 27th, 1984, the signed Federal air pollution control regulation form, shipping vessel form, showing the vessel that it was on and other paperwork.
From my journal, here are the most important repairs that were made over the years: This is only a partial listing and I have the receipts for every repair from day one. I also have a Carfax.
21,690 miles: Replaced the fuel pump and muffler. Engine tune up
24,501 miles: Replace vacuum pump for the Air Conditioner and all hoses
37,415 miles: New Air compressor and pulley July 1998
51,914 miles: Replace both cams and all rockers, water pump thermostats, engine mounts, brake pads, calipers and sensors, tune up.
61,919 miles: Completely resealed the transmission
62,578 miles: Replaced all shocks, seals. Tune up June 2005
64,215 miles: Front and Rear brakes, calipers, sensors Feb 2006
65,178 miles: New fuel injectors Dec 2006
65,710 miles: New fuel pump Oct 2007
66,092 miles: Replaced fuel accumulator Dec 2007
69,945 miles: Replaced fuel distributor, spark plugs, REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, replace drag link centerline, front end alignment.
71,023 miles: Replaced fuel injectors, seals and did an engine tuneup.
THIS CAR RUNS BEAUTIFULLY AND I’VE USED ONLY SYNTHETIC FLUIDS IN THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. THE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWS FAIRLY COLD.
