Description

Up for sale is my privately owned 1972 Mercedes 350SL in gorgeous original condition with only 48,200 documented miles. Contrary to the 350SL badge on the trunk deck, this classic is equipped with her legendary 4.5L V8 engine that Mercedes created which changed the driving experience forever. Just for 1 year, Mercedes badged the 1972 R107's with "350SL" but actually powered it with a 4.5L V8 and offered to rebadge them once they reached the USA. I am the 3rd and proud owner of this vehicle. I have more than 100 detailed photographs that I can provide upon request via email at [email protected] so you know exactly what you are bidding on.
The car is truly a time capsule, all original paint (moss green) still has a brilliant sheen without an inch of rust on or under the car. The interior is in immaculate original condition with no tears in the seats which still have great support, no absolutely no cracks in the dash, perfect floor carpets with the heal pad appearing as if it has never been touched. Every option functions from the climate control (heat/AC), original becker radio (fully functioning automatic antenna), both power windows open and close without hesitation, VDO clock does not miss a second, and even vacuum door locks all work when turning the key as if the car just came off the show room. All of the gauges are clear with no condensation, odometer rolls without a hitch. All windows are original with no crack's or chip's. The chrome has a mirror shine all throughout, and the rubber has not cracking.

The car comes with all of her authentic books/manuals, complete tool kit, service records documenting every time the vehicle was serviced, hard/soft top tool X 2 in the original pouch. The trunk follows form; exceptionally clean, original trunk mats with no cracking, original spare with jack present. The soft top is original as well and is in almost perfect shape. Absolutely no leaks, no tattering, no tears. The release mechanism for removing the hard/soft top is in perfect working order with not sticking or problems unlatching the rear pin as R107's commonly do. All seals on the car have been checked and are in good shape. Recent work includes rear shocks, and new muffler.

The car has never been in an accident (still with original data plate stamped on the radiator support), has always been kept indoors, always maintained and driven consistently but sparingly over 4 decades. The lines and gaps on the car are perfect. Doors open and shut like a bank vault, as do the hood and trunk deck. The car is truly a pleasure to drive locally or on the open road where she knows no limits. 4 period correct white wall tires have more then 80% tread left on them. A few areas of that would need attention (depending on how particular one is) would be:
1) Speedometer light bulb is fused, and the gas gauge always reads "Full".
2) Very few minor chips in the original paint (which I have photo-documented and can send to you). The original paint is in fantastic condition. I purchased a high quality touch up kit but then decided to leave it as is. I feel that it gives character/charm/patina to the car. I will include this in the sale.
3) AC blows cool, but not ice cold. The heater works wonderfully.
If you have read up until this point, there is a good chance you already know the status this car holds in MB history; the immediate successor of the famed Pagoda, and the first of the acclaimed R107 Panzerwagen. Original is only once, it is not unreasonable for me to lay claim of owning most authentic and low mileage 350SL's in existence today. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I encourage anyone who is interested to come see, feel, and experience her in person. She is registered and insured on my name.
