Part Exchange To Clear
Taken in part exchange and to clear is a 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL320. The car is finished in MB904 Midnight Blue Metallic with a Palamino Beige leather interior. It has covered 117k miles, has a full service history from main dealers and independent garages and has a file of old MOT certificates as well as some invoices for servicing and repair work. The current MOT runs until April 2016 and has a good set of tyres fitted. We have also just given it a full valet. This car is certainly a good base point, with a lot of history to make it a nice little project.
Good Points
The car goes really well, the previous owner has told me he had a headgasket replacement about a year ago. I have no invoice for it but the engine does drive very well, does not rattle, smoke or knock and shows no signs of overheating, in fact its idle is very smooth. The gearbox shifts well and is also smooth. No knocks from the steering or suspension either. The AC works, it has a decent stereo and comes with the hard top. I've checked the convertible roof for operation and that's ok too (I was planning to take a photo of it with the lid down but the weather hasn't permitted me to do so yet).
Bad Points:
A few things we have noticed, bodywork needs a bit of love, nothing horrendous, there is a ding by the fuel filler flap (my dent man says he could remove most if not all of it) N/S/F wing has a small bit of corrosion in it as has a very small bit on one of the rear 1/4 panels. The hardtop roof also has a bit of corrosion. It could also do with a mop and polish.
Inside the drivers seat bolster has worn through the leather (loads of MB breakers have these in stock) and the O/S/F window regulator has broken, again, most breakers have these available. As a result, when the hardtop is on the convertible hood light stays on as it cant register a window position. Its fine when its off and you just use the cabrio hood.
Overall:
This would make a great project for someone who has the time, its a good base car, the faults ive listed are the ones Ive noticed and I would stress I havent looked any more closely than what I have listed. These cars are starting to climb in value and this one finished would easily make £6k+.
