Description

1976 Mercury Capri II, 2800cc/171ci V6 w/ 4 speed manual transmission, 2 door hatchback, sunroof ,65000 original miles I think, clear PA title is "mileage exempt" due to age, but I don't think the odometer has rolled whatever it does read. The good…it is almost all there as far as original goes, the only modification is someone put a different stereo in but they didn’t hack it all up. Still has the trunk carpet, vinyl rear seatback cover, vehicle jack and wheel chock (rare!), even the passenger reading light mounted to the A-pillar. Has all four original rims w/ center caps and the spare…built in Germany by Ford and shoed with MG rims! The car runs, I just put a harmonic balancer/crank pulley on it along with a new water pump & thermostat and had the radiator flushed and tested while it was out. It started right up after not having run for a few months, last inspected 06/13, it had a new exhaust (dual) put on around that time and has four new tires. Clutch and brake systems all seem to work as they should, appears to shift fine. I think all of the lights worked except for one of the high beams and the fan for the heat wasn’t working. The strut towers are very clean and rust free, the spare tire well is also clean and solid, underneath looks decent too…all a shock when you look at the rest of the car, which brings us to the bad…the car has skin cancer. It has skin cancer everywhere, around some of the windows and handles, along some parts of the trim. The worst is around the gas door and none of it is beyond salvage but it is everywhere, I don’t want to try to hide that fact…it doesn’t look to have affected the major parts of the car, just some bad surface spots here and there. The driver’s rear corner had some body work done after backing into a guardrail, so it was minor and I still have the trim that was removed. The passenger front fender is caved in from a deer running into it, small deer and low speed hit so it was only the fender and could probably be re-worked since it is a good old steel fender. All of the rubber is dry and cracked; it is a 38 year old car. The upholstery looks decent except for the driver’s seat; great for patterns. I got it running but the tie rods are shot and it was shaking too badly when I tried to test drive it so I just drove it up the road, checked reverse and came back. The motor needs a tune up but idles well, there is a miss to it and might need an oil pressure sending unit. Overall the car is a great candidate for a complete restoration or with a little TLC you could drive it as is…but it is crying for a restoration or maybe a low-buck vintage racer! Includes an NOS original Owner’s Manual and a set of Sport mirrors I bought; when new, the car didn’t have a passenger mirror and the inside adjustment knob is broken off the driver’s mirror so the Sport set solves both problems; the Sport mirrors are the same mirror just flat black. Team Blitz has most of the parts needed for this vintage of Capri and the motor is the same as a Pinto, Bobcat, Mustang, etc…the Pinto Club of America guys were great for engine info and parts! Neat little rear wheel drive vintage sports car, you will be the only one at the car show with one, I’ll almost guarantee. Clear PA title in hand. $250 deposit required within 24 hours of end of auction, car can sit where it is at for up to 30 days once it is paid for. Payment required within 7 days of end of auction via Paypal or Cash…or I’m an air-cooled VW guy so wink wink if you are making an offer. At the buyer’s expense, the car will need towed and I would recommend flat towing not dollying, depending on how far you are going…it is near Indiana, PA 15701. All the above requirements apply unless prior arrangements are made. FOR SALE IN THE US ONLY, NO EXCEPTIONS. Reserve the right to cancel bids or end auction early.
