Description
A rare cougar up for sale: The XR7-G was Mercury’s equivalent to a Shelby Mustang. Like the Shelby Mustang, vehicles were delivered to the A.O. Smith facility in groups for conversion. This particular is equipped with the 390 2-barrel (2V) with a C6 transmission and factory A/C! The hood pins are correct and were installed from factory. It has the correct original 2 barrel carb installed.
All numbers are matching and verified by the Marti Report. This car is one of only 619 built by Carroll Shelby and this one is without a sunroof. From what research tells me, the G-cars were designed for Hertz but not all of them went into their fleet. This car was not in the Hertz fleet; it went to a dealership instead. It was bought out of Georgia in 2003 from cougar guy Royce Peterson. It was then brought up to Alberta Canada where it received a full frame-on restoration which took nearly 3 years to complete. The car was dealer undercoated from new and all work was professionally done (NOS was used wherever available). Since restoration the car has seen only just over 2000 miles and still looks new. Has won many awards and is a true piece of American muscle/pony car history - nothing compared to the 1968 XR7-G and it was made for one year only.
