This example was made in May 1974 byBritish Leyland in Abingdon, England and was owned by the same MGenthusiast owner for the past decade and a previous long termMGenthusiast owner prior, North American MGB Register #2-929.Dressedin seldom-seen Cintron (think grass in early spring) the paint pairswell with the black, folding soft-top and black vinyl interior. Thesoft-top is in overall very good order.
Thatbright and shiny green grass-colored paint is in overall excellent orderwhile the car’s body is straight and all the trim pieces are presentednicely. The original painted engine bay is very tidy, the cargo arealooks good and has the following – a spare tire with cover, a jack and atire iron. The car’s chrome bumpers with overriders look great and fittightly to the body. No Sabrinas here!
This MGrolls on radials, size 185/70R14 at all four corners and each tire ismounted to a factory MG alloy wheel. The wheels and tires are all ingood, original order.
Under the bonnet is a1.8L OHV, twin-cam, four-cylinder engine with dual SU carburetors.Backing up this motor is a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.91:1rear end.Inside, the vinyl bucket seats look great, as does thematching carpet. A wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel is ready foradventure and frames the dashboard quite well. The instrument panel andinner door liners are in good, original order while the center consoleand shift lever look great, but the speedo/odometer are inoperable. AnAM/FM stereo with cassette deck and five-band graphic equalizercompletes the interior.
The roadster was thefirst of the MGB range to be produced. The body was a pure two-seater; asmall rear seat was a rare option at one point. By making better use ofspace the MGB was able to offer more passenger and luggageaccommodation than the earlier MGA while being three inches shorteroverall. The suspension was also softer, giving a smoother ride and thelarger engine gave a slightly higher top speed. Wheel diameter droppedfrom 15 to 14 inches.
Convertible competitionto this MG in 1974 included Alfa Romeo’s Spider 1300 Junior, MG’s ownMidget and Morgan’s 4/4 and Triumph’s TR6.
