Description
Welcome to my auction for one of the best Series 1 L400 Delicas in the U.K.
Mitsubishi Delica 2.8TD Exceed. SWB, low roof, 8 seater.
A long time member of the Delica owners club I have now owned 7 L400s and this particular example is in superb condition and has never wanted for anything. Cleaned, fluids checked, etc at least once a month -you will struggle to find one better.
Imported to the U.K. in 2007 and has only traveled about 9500 miles since on our often wet and sometimes salty roads. The underneath of this example is perfect and rust free.
MOT done on 1st April needing absolutely nothing and with no advisories whatsoever. MOT station comments were "The best condition Delica they had ever seen" and "one of the best 20 year old cars that had ever been in there".
In the past month: new EGR valve high quality blanking kit, new air filter, new fuel filter, new inline fuel filter, new oil, new exhaust silencer box and rear section, intercooler and pipes removed and internals cleaned, diesel injector cleaner run through, TPS removed and cleaned and voltage checked.
Starts at the first press of the button every time with little or no black smoke regardless of the weather.
Common Delica issues- O/D button, 4 wheel drive indicator, fuel pump seals, expansion tank, indicator stalk, sunroofs, underneath are all without fault and function perfectly.
I have had this Delica wrapped in a top quality white vinyl which shimmers in the light at a cost of over £1500. This was done because I already had another Delica at the time I bought this one which was green over grey and didn't want to have 2 that looked the same. The bodywork and paintwork under the vinyl was near perfect with no scratches or marks of note and absolutely no rust. Original spec decals in black were added over the white vinyl.
Wheels off a Pajero which were then refurbished and painted in black and new chrome effect wheel centres added with new retaining clips. Tyres are matching 31x10.50 R15.
This Delica has a strange habit. When up to full running temperature and if you are driving down a long road at a constant speed if will give the feeling you are slightly depressing and then letting up the accelerator. If you do accelerate it goes away. It will never stall, stop or hesitate at all, it just feels as if you are slightly accelerating and then decelerating even though you are not. I have just got used to it.
It is possibly just due to a build up of carbon/soot somewhere that may even clear with a good run down the motorway as the car has only been used for small journeys around town and for the school run for the past year or so.
Just to re-iterate, the Delica is absolutely 100% super reliable. I would trust it to take me anywhere, and have. I have done 1000's of miles in it like this and have just got used to it.
I have reduced the price of the Delica by £250 to give the new owner the opportunity to get the car Terracleaned if they have a garage near them that does it. If it is just a soot build up then this should clear it out if a blast down the motorway doesn't.
Only selling this (the last of my Delicas) as the children are now growing up and don't come on day trips out any longer. It was super handy for traveling to and from our holiday home in Wales with kids, luggage, etc but we have now sold that. We simply don't need a car of this size any longer.
INTERIOR: In superb condition with absolutely no rips or tears and nothing broken at all. Very clean and never smoked in. All buttons, switches, dials, lights, etc work exactly as they should. The radio works perfectly but the display seems to have a mind of its own. Some days looks OK and others days the display looks Chinese or something. Maybe this is something you would want to replace in the future.
EXTERIOR: Gleaming white vinyl that is virtually unmarked. The original paintwork was green over grey. In very, very good condition considering it is over 20 years old with very few marks, knocks, etc. The wheels and tyres are in very good condition also. The underneath is probably the cleanest you will see with almost no rust whatsoever and the benefit of a new exhaust which is only 2 weeks old.
MECHANICALLY: Starts and stops perfectly regardless of weather or conditions. Runs and starts cleanly with little or no smoke. TPS turned to 0.8v to give lower gear changes and reduce revs. 100% reliable, has never, ever let me down.
A superb Delica in great condition that has always been looked after. A great go-anywhere multi purpose vehicle. You will struggle to find a better one.
Speedo and odometer still work in km. Currently just approaching 152,000 which is about 94,000 miles.
About the only job I can think of that you may want to do to keep you busy one weekend or evening is to clean and grease the central locking. When opening the driver's door, the other lock switches move but don't quite make it to open. If you press the unlock switch 4 or 5 times they will eventually make it all the way. They have probably not been looked at in 20 years since the car was made and need re-greasing.
If you need or want any further information, please send me a message through Ebay or call me on 0161 368 6652 (Colin.)
Call me if you want to arrange to view or for a test drive, as long as you have adequate insurance, otherwise I will drive.
Cash on collection preferred. UK bidders only.
