Description
I bought this car in January of 2014. I have always LOVED 350z's and still do! I bought the car when it had about 95k miles on it. The car came as a base 350z with no cruise control, traction control, or limited slip differential It did however already come with the Stillen Generation 2 Long Tube Intake Kit. So naturally, I bought some used Brembo brake calipers off of another 350z, a used limited slip differential(the entire differential unit:direct swap), Hotchkis front and rear adjustable sway bars, Tanabe GF210 Lowering Springs, Eibach wheel spacers, StopTech drilled front and rear rotors, and EBC Yellowstuff high temp brake pads. I recently replaced both front strut mounts just as a precaution. The car rides incredibly well! Not too stiff because of the stock shocks, but stiff enough to eliminate most body roll in corners. Speaking of corners, this car handles like a go cart! Right now I have the front sway bar set one notch shy of full stiff and the rears set at full stiff. This gives you just enough oversteer to get the back end of the car to come around during the corner, but not enough that every time you track out it's in a slide. It's the perfect balance in my opinion. I actually do some vintage racing with my dad and am a part of a team that builds a formula race car for competition, so when it comes to handling I make sure I've made it handle just the way I want. The limited slip does wonders for cornering as well. It just helps you get around a corner and get the power down quicker.
There aren't any squeaks in the interior from the dash, just the squeak that ever 350z owner will tell you that happens in the rear bushings that mount to the body. The noise only occurs when it's cold outside and I believe you can get rid of it by lubing up the bushings.
The transmission shifts really well. I put Pennzoil syncromesh in it so that helps a lot! The clutch feels really good too. Never had any slipping issues. In fact, when we had the car up in the air at work we noticed the transmission looked brand new, and so did the block actually. There are no records of these being replaced, but it looked like the transmission had been removed before I bought it, maybe to put a new clutch in?
The Brembo brake upgrade was definitely a worthy investment! The difference in the two calipers was massive! Obviously braking power is better, but weight too! When swapping them, the front Brembos were lighter than the much smaller rear stock calipers!
Anyway, I love this car to death and wish I could keep it, but I need something with fewer miles on it because I already know I am going to be doing a lot of highway driving and I don't really have time to take this car to the track where it needs to be!
So as a recap, the car is great. A few body blemishes, and a little tear on the drivers seat bolster, but nothing major. Mechanically everything checks out. The car pulls strong from every gear at all RPMs. The transmission is nice and tight and the clutch is nice and stiff. Downshifting is really easy when you heel-toe. The flywheel seems to be pretty light because it doesn't take much effort to rev the engine. The handling is incredible. And the ride is very comfortable.
