Description
1951 Kaiser Special 2 door sedan.
I restored this car about 12 years ago and it has seen regular use since. Starts easily, runs smoothly and with good power. Lots of low speed torque. Clutch is smooth and transmission works as it should. Overdrive functions perfectly and allows easy 70 mph cruising. Front end is tight and does not wander, especially on the wide white radial tires with approx 5000 miles on them. All the lights work; the radio does not. Has the fastest vacuum wipers you ever saw.
Body is quite good; small of areas of floor board rust caused by rubber mats were cut out and metal welded in. Rockers and quarters are original and good. Paint is driver quality with nicks and scratches that accumulate over a dozen years. Interior is clean and durable, though not original style. Dash is very pretty, and all the controls etc. work. Grill and tailights rechromed, the balance decent original. Driver's vent window has a crack that I never thought worth fixing.
Engine was rebuilt at the time of the restoration with extra care given to balance the rods and port and relieve the block. This makes the car snappier than the average Kaiser. It gets surprising gas mileage on trips, over 20 mpg. She does like to smoke when you hit the gas at the bottom of a long hill.
This is a fine comfortable car for cruise nights or club outings.
