Description
1950 Pontiac Catalina 2dr hardtop - Half finished project
I bought the car in its current state. I realized I wont have time to complete this one, so its time to go to someone who can finish it. Its currently not running/driving. It still is a project that needs to be finished. I do have a valid/clean British Columbia (Canada) registration for it in my name.
Chassis/Suspension/Brakes: The body was taken off the Chassis and chassis painted. It has a camaro front clip installed (Ive been told from an 81 camaro). It has power steering and disc brakes. It will need new brake lines, master/booster, and the brakes gone through etc. Brakes look like they've been sitting for a while. The front end sits high. My personal preference would be to have it lowered. My intention was to get the car running first, then look at options to lower the front end (drop spindles, lowering coils etc.)
Drivetrain:
This car was originally an American model so it came originally with the straight 8 engine. I do not have the original engine. The motor in it now is a 350 chevy V8. I have not seen the engine running but have been told it has only about 1500-2000 miles on it. Ive been told it has a lumpy cam and runs well. I can see it has steel heads, a brand new Edelbrock 4bbl carb and performer intake manifold. It has a set or shorty headers. The tranny ive been told is the camaro turbo 350 automatic. The camaro 10 bolt is in the rear, i dont know what gear ratio or if itsposi or not. I have the camaro drive shaft which will need to be sizedand balanced.
Body/Paint:
The body was put on a rotisserie while its under carriage was painted. The body was painted back to original colors with red/ivory. The paint job itself is a 'driver quality'. It is certainly presentable but not a flawless show job. The front fenders im guessing were painted separately from the rest of the car as they are a slight tone darker then the rest of the car. The body panels line up good. There would need to be some final tweeking with the front fenders and hood to get them to sit nice. The hood currently closes sitting a few inches higher then it should be.
Interior:
This car will need a complete new interior done. I have the original door skins which are in rough shape. They would be good to use for reference when re-doing the interior. I dont have a headliner. I should have most(if not all) of the interior trim pieces. The steering column installed is not original and has tilt. It was painted though to look like it could be original at first glance.
Glass: I have all the original glass which is in good shape except for 3 pieces. The 2 front vent windows are cracked but intact on the car, and the passenger side glass is cracked, but still intact.
Wheels: Ive got an original set of pontiac hubcaps for the car which are in good driver shape. The car is currently sitting on a set of steel rims(basically something for it to just roll on for now).
Trim: It appears all the trim and chrome is there(except for one rear bumper bracket). The chrome bumpers are in rough shape and would use a re-chrome to look nice. A lot of the stainless is in good original condition. Other pieces though have some pitting but still look somewhat presentable for a driver, not a show car.
Wiring: The car will need to be re-wired. I do have the original wiring harness and fuse box which would be good to use for reference.
Misc. Parts:
I have 2 original 1950 fender skirts that are in good shape but would need to be repainted, brand new rubber gas tank with straps and hardware, brand new aluminum rad, misc brake lines and e-brakes stuff which ive been told was from the camaro that donated the front clip and rear end. I have another 2 boxes of misc parts that have been bagged and tagged when i got them. Ive glanced through it all but haven't had a chance to go through every little peice by peice. Included also is a radio delete plate. I have the original speaker that goes behind the clock, but dont have the actual radio itself. I do have the original indian head hood ornament and the original keys which fit in the trunk.
Summary:
So as you can see this is still a project car. The good news is that the hard stuff has been done. This is a great start to a beautiful classic that will turn heads once back on the road. The car is located 40 minutes from Vancouver, BC Canada. Interested parties are encouraged to call me at 1-604-721-9730. Buyer is responsible for shipping, but I will gladly assist. Thanks for looking. $5800 US Dollars.
