Description
This is your lucky day. In a sea of sleazy used car dealersand shady individual sellers, with this Firebird, you are dealing with acertified car guy. I bought my first car two years before I could get a drivingpermit and I currently have a garage full of classics. That means you aregetting one pampered, well-maintained Firebird.
I bought Lisa, this 2000 Firebird, new from the Pontiacdealer. I wanted a good-looking car that got good gas mileage and cut me abreak on the insurance. So I bought this 3.8 liter V6 model with a five speedmanual transmission. (Note that no matter what the hood promises, this is a sixcylinder model.) The only factory option she came with was T-tops. That meansthe car DOES NOT have power windows, power mirrors, power locks, a remote keyfob, or any other electronic extras. She does have power steering, powerbrakes, AM/FM/CD/USB/Aux Input radio, air conditioning, remote trunk release, fullinstrumentation and all the other standard features the Firebird came with.
This car is as immaculate as a car with 154,000 miles on itcan be. Never in an accident, the car’s factory black paint still shines, asyou can see in the pictures. There are a few small scratches here and there andtwo door dings near the wheels that were to show in a photograph. Theundersides of the floor pans are so clean that you could eat off them, though Iwouldn’t recommend it because you’d have to turn the car upside down.
The interior is near-perfect. No rips, tears, or wear on anyof the seats. The carpet still looks new. A black dash mat covers a perfectdash. I only put in on because the Florida sun made a nasty windshield glareoff the wide dashboard. The factory shades for the T-tops are installed. Allweather stripping seals are supple and tight. There is a small split in the topof each door panel at the rear. These are caused by a defect in themanufacturing and design and you’ll likely find this problem in every car. Myoriginals split while under warrantee and were replaced with this pair, whichsplit after warrantee. In the picture, the rear cargo area carpet looks waymore faded than it is in real life.
Things I did to the car: When the radio quit working, Ireplaced it with the Pioneer unit you see in the pictures. I also upgrade thedoor speakers. If you are a thumping-bass-loving person, you’ll bedisappointed, but for everyone else the sound is clear and plenty loud to hearon the highway with the T-tops off. Right after I bought it, I added a Pontiacoptional OEM Firebird gearshift knob. Later when the steering wheel started todecay around the edge, I bought a used OEM leather-wrapped steering wheel. Thecontrol buttons on it are not hooked up. The last big thing I did was add theTrans Am model Ram Air hood. This is an OEM hood taken off a wrecked 2000 TransAm. A local Corvette shop touched up the fiberglass and painted it with aperfect match for the car. It looks completely original. The ram air is notfunctional, it just looks cool.
This car runs perfectly. Burns no oil, leaks no fluid, makesno strange noises. Still gets 30 MPG on the highway. Lesson for all: This iswhat happens if you take care of a car. I guarantee this engine has never beenpushed over 3000 rpms because I’m the only one to ever drive her. Every featureand function works just as it did new. The car does not leak in the rain.
I have twenty years of maintenance records, which are mostlyoil changes every 3000 to 5000 miles. At 118,000 I replaced the struts andshocks even though they seemed good. The rest of the entries are the usualbrakes, batteries, tires, and air conditioning wear items. This car has been nearlybulletproof. A few years ago I bought an electric Ford Focus that became thelocal driver and Lisa has only been used for longer trips.
So why is a car guy selling such a great car? Because Icould no longer resist the Siren’s song of a new Dodge Challenger. I could keepLisa in the collection, but thought I’d see if someone out there wouldappreciate her first. It will not break my heart if she doesn’t sell.
Other items available at extra cost include: the originalhood, OEM Ram Air intake from the Trans Am, a custom car cover used onlyindoors, a spare throttle body assembly, factory service manuals, a spare setof supports for the rear hatch, a custom front window shade, and a spare NOSOEM manual side view mirror.
That’s her, and my, story. If you don’t think the car isworth the reserve price in the auction, you are not the right person to ownher. The hood alone is worth over $1000. No deals, no discounts, no nonsense. Forsale locally, so the listing may vanish at any time. I also might block yourbid if you seem shady. No offense if I do and you aren’t shady. Just makingsure my girl gets a good home. There is absolutely no warrantee on this car andit is sold as-is. $500 non-refundable-for-anything-including-the-zombie-apocalypsedeposit due within 24 hours of bidding ending. Pickup within 10 days and yourmoney needs to be in my bank before Lisa leaves her garage. Expect me to helpbaby her onto the carrier you bring to pick her up. You can also fly intoOrlando International and drive her home. I’ve been trusting her on long tripsfor years.
