Description

This is your lucky day. In a sea of sleazy used car dealers and shady individual sellers, with this Firebird, you are dealing with a certified car guy. I bought my first car two years before I could get a driving permit and I currently have a garage full of classics. That means you are getting one pampered, well-maintained Firebird. She is being relisted due to non-paying bidder.

I bought Lisa, this 2000 Firebird, new from the Pontiac dealer. I wanted a good-looking car that got good gas mileage and cut me a break on the insurance. So I bought this 3.8 liter V6 model with a five speed manual transmission. (Note that no matter what the hood promises, this is a six cylinder model.) The only factory option she came with was T-tops. That means the car DOES NOT have power windows, power mirrors, power locks, a remote key fob, or any other electronic extras. She does have power steering, power brakes, AM/FM/CD/USB/Aux Input radio, air conditioning, remote trunk release, full instrumentation and all the other standard features the Firebird came with.

This car is as immaculate as a car with 155,000 miles on it can be. Never in an accident, the car’s factory black paint still shines, as you can see in the pictures. There are a few small scratches here and there and two door dings near the wheels that were to show in a photograph. The undersides of the floor pans are so clean that you could eat off them, though I wouldn’t recommend it because you’d have to turn the car upside down.

The interior is near-perfect. No rips, tears, or wear on any of the seats. The carpet still looks new. A black dash mat covers a perfect dash. I only put in on because the Florida sun made a nasty windshield glare off the wide dashboard. The factory shades for the T-tops are installed. All weather stripping seals are supple and tight. There is a small split in the top of each door panel at the rear. These are caused by a defect in the manufacturing and design and you’ll likely find this problem in every car. My originals split while under warrantee and were replaced with this pair, which split after warrantee. In the picture, the rear cargo area carpet looks way more faded than it is in real life.

Things I did to the car: When the radio quit working, I replaced it with the Pioneer unit you see in the pictures. I also upgrade the door speakers. If you are a thumping-bass-loving person, you’ll be disappointed, but for everyone else the sound is clear and plenty loud to hear on the highway with the T-tops off. Right after I bought it, I added a Pontiac optional OEM Firebird gearshift knob. Later when the steering wheel started to decay around the edge, I bought a used OEM leather-wrapped steering wheel. The control buttons on it are not hooked up. The last big thing I did was add the Trans Am model Ram Air hood. This is an OEM hood taken off a wrecked 2000 Trans Am. A local Corvette shop touched up the fiberglass and painted it with a perfect match for the car. It looks completely original. The ram air is not functional, it just looks cool.

This car runs perfectly. Burns no oil, leaks no fluid, makes no strange noises. Still gets 30 MPG on the highway. Lesson for all: This is what happens if you take care of a car. I guarantee this engine has never been pushed over 3000 rpms because I’m the only one to ever drive her. Every feature and function works just as it did new. The car does not leak in the rain.

I have twenty years of maintenance records, which are mostly oil changes every 3000 to 5000 miles. At 118,000 I replaced the struts and shocks even though they seemed good. The rest of the entries are the usual brakes, batteries, tires, and air conditioning wear items. This car has been nearly bulletproof. A few years ago I bought an electric Ford Focus that became the local driver and Lisa has only been used for longer trips.

So why is a car guy selling such a great car? Because I could no longer resist the Siren’s song of a new Dodge Challenger. I could keep Lisa in the collection, but thought I’d see if someone out there would appreciate her first. It will not break my heart if she doesn’t sell.

Other items available at extra cost include: the original hood, OEM Ram Air intake from the Trans Am, a custom car cover used only indoors, a spare throttle body assembly, factory service manuals, a spare set of supports for the rear hatch, a custom front window shade, and a spare NOSOEM manual side view mirror.

That’s her, and my, story. If you don’t think the car is worth the reserve price in the auction, you are not the right person to own her. The hood alone is worth over $1000. No deals, no discounts, no nonsense. For sale locally, so the listing may vanish at any time. I also might block your bid if you seem shady. No offense if I do and you aren’t shady. Just making sure my girl gets a good home. There is absolutely no warrantee on this car and it is sold as-is. $500 non-refundable-for-anything-including-the-zombie-apocalypsedeposit due within 24 hours of bidding ending. Pickup within 7 days and your money needs to be in my bank before Lisa leaves her garage. Expect me to help baby her onto the carrier you bring to pick her up. You can also fly into Orlando International and drive her home. I’ve been trusting her on long trips for years.
