Description

1977 Pontiac Can Am
You are bidding on a number(s) matching, Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documented Pontiac LeMans, Can Am Coupe. This car has little rust and is nearly all original. It has the preferred Pontiac 6.6 liter 4 barrel trans am (400 cu.in) motor. The car is mechanically in excellent condition. It runs great. Has new brakes and tires. The Rochester carburetor has been replaced with a higher performing Holly carb. Should you want to restore it to original, the Rochester carburetor is available on the internet as an aftermarket rebuild and is inexpensive.
This car was only produced for one model year, 1977. A total of 1377 Can Am’s were made. They are a Grand LeMans sport coupe body and all but a few were equipped with a Pontiac Trans Am 400 cu.in. engine. All the Can Am’s have a Grand Prix dash, and all were painted cameo white with tri-color racing stripes, shaker hood and duck tail spoiler. There are estimated to be fewer than 50 in running condition. Most are either not original or in poor condition. Few are as well-equipped as this one.
This car was originally purchased from a dealer in Wichita, Kansas and spent most of its life in dry southern Texas. It was purchased by a couple in Pennsylvania and they began the mechanical restoration. The car got caught up in a divorce settlement at which time I purchase it and brought it to Ohio. I have owned it for the past 6 years and the car has been in a temperature-controlled garage ever since.
The car is an automatic with cruise control (inoperative) and air conditioning (also in operative), AM/FM stereo radio, bucket seats and center console. The interior is firethorn red, the most popular color of all the available interiors.
The body has very little rust. The floor pans are good. The body needs paint and the interior of the car need to be restored. The body has had a repaint, but it was a Maaco type paint job and body work. The interior needs seat covers and carpeting. The car comes with many parts including an additional set of grey Rally II wheels. I also have a brand new set of snowflake wheels available for an additional amount. The snow flake wheels were optional on the Can Am in 1977. The car comes with a complete set of striping decals and the very hard to find LeMans Sport Coupe emblems. I have many other parts, to numerous to mention that are included in the sale if my reserve is met.
The car has a complete set of documentation, PHS window sticker, promotional materials, owner’s manual, and electronic shop manuals. I am a private seller and have a clear Ohio title in hand.
This was my dream car when I graduated from college in 1977. I purchased it with the intention of doing a frame on restoration. Unfortunately, health and other personal issues have gotten in the way of this dream and it is time to pass it to someone better able to complete the task.
