Description
Offered here is a beautiful 1956 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Safari station wagon finishedin Nimbus Grey (actually it's white!) and Olympic Blue, the wagon'soriginal colors. This is a highly unusual Safari wagon because ofoptions it has.First, it has by data code the rarely seen cloth andleather interior which is much flashier than the all leather. It alsohas an extraordinarily rare padded dash, power front windows and asix-way power seat--all factory installed options. You'll likely neversee another Safari with this combination of factory options.
The wagon received a frame-on restoration some years back and stillshows very well.At that time the paint, chrome and interior were allrestored except for the headliner which is in good original condition.Mechanical restoration was done as needed. The underside was alsohighly detailed.Everything still looks very nice.It appears that therear of the wagon was re-painted at some point after the restoration. The wagon has zero rust or rust repair and was a CA car most if not allof its life until to coming to NC.The car runs very well and issurprisingly fast.I recently installed a set of valve lifters andchecked the compression at that time and discovered it has perfectcompression on all cylinders. The hydramatic shifts smoothly.Everyoption works on the wagon except for the spotlight, windshield washerand the clock.Since owning the Safari I have had the lift gatestraightened and rechromed by Mad Mooks Nomads in CA.The lift gate fitslike a glove now.I also replaced the torsion rod system with hydrauliccylinders so that now the entire tail gate and lift gate function andfit beautifully.
There are several areas where the paint has been touched up over theyears, but the wagon still looks beautiful inside and out.I shall beglad to go over the details with interested parties and provide anyadditional photos you may need to help make a decision. I reserve the right to end this auction early in the event of a local sale. Thanks forlooking!Rex
