Description
This beauty is being relisted due to the buyer not being able to complete the transaction due to an unexpected medical emergency.
You are bidding on a fully refreshened 1979 Trans Am. This is one of the best bang for the buck Fbody cars on eBay. The last time this 'bird took flight was 1989 then stored in the back of a double depth garage. When purchased it needed many of the things that just go bad from sitting for 28 years. Below, you will see the extensive work done to the car to get it ready to start safely and reliably cruising the road once again. This 403 Automatic 1979 T/A is well equipped with not only T-tops (with roof drip molding option) but also A/C. Pretty rare, fairly expensive combo. Adding to it being rare is the factory paint code 29Land 29U Nocturne Blue Metallic paint job with the blue/black/gold bird and blue upgraded hobnail interior. This 62,xxx mile car is ready to enjoy. Thousands spent to get the car really looking right and feeling better.
The car has had the following work done to it.
Interior: The interior was removed down to the floor pan which had no rust. It has new carpet, new headliner, new door sills. Below the carpet is new sound proofing, new heat shield, and new OEM style jute padding. Matching floor mats with the Firebird logo were also added as a great finishing touch. New rear window tray in the paint matching darker blue.
AC vacuum lines for the diaphragms were turning to dust being so brittle so it was removed and new lines were added. While doing so we went ahead and replaced the heater core, and blower motor for good measure. As well as new heater core lines.
All the plastics which had faded in different areas to different extents were removed, cleaned, primed, and dyed with the OEM correct dye. And placed back in the car for a single trim color, clean, rattle proof interior.
Many new parts. New interior birds, sills, rubber dew strip, window cranks, door cups, lighter, Door rubber If it wasn't replaced it was cleaned, fixed, or rejuvenated for the best look possible.
Seats were removed and shampooed. Rear seat top has a 1" tear in it. Front seat has a slightly worn in look and piping has breaks in it around the edge. Otherwise, seats are clean, interior smells fresh now. Door cards were cleaned and shampooed. Dash was also cleaned.
Clock works, but does not keep correct time. The machine turned bezel was turning yellow due to the age of the clear coat on it. It does have a new cut out replacement appliqué in place. Gauge cluster had some bad bulbs that were also replaced.
Electronics: All in great working order. A/C switch, wiper switch, turn signal, 4 new headlights, new bulbs for taillights and turn signals, replaced gauge cluster bulbs, dimmer switch, gear selector light, headlight switch, cigarette lighter, all glass fuses, gauges speedometer, tachometermeter, oil, water all work Has working OEM AM/FM tape player that still works. It all seems to function as it should the way it should. Has new rear speakers and dome covers.
Suspension: Brand new tires over a set of brand new 15x8 replacement snowflake rims. New rims, center caps, lug nuts, New rear shocks with a coil over type setup in rear to keep the stance looking great. Front shocks and springs in great shape. Car rides smooth without any interior rattles Car has new rotors, new brake pads, new brake lines, new master cylinder, new brake booster.
Rear End: Car has had the exhaust tips polished. The door to the filler panel had caused a stress crack in the drivers taillight which was replaced with another which all looks fantastic. The tail lights were cleaned as well as the panel. Bulbs were fixed or replaced. Trunk, again is totally rust free but has a new deluxe felt mat and jute padding to refresh the car. It has the correct spare, with a perfect inflator bottle, jack, jack pad adapter for the bumper, lug wrench is all there and correct in fantastic shape. The gas has been flushed out and new gas added.
Driveline: Seems to be very solid. Not many miles put on since completion. 403 engine starts as it should without any smoke, blow by, or other issues. Had a good tune up done. New belts, hoses, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, thermostat, coolant flush. The 3 speed auto has a shift kit in it as it will spin the tires easily when going into second gear and can hit 3rd nearly as hard. Transmission has new filter and fluid.
The car has long tube headers that were put on the car in 1980. It has a solid deep rumble yet not annoyingly loud tone to it. The car does not have a catalytic converter.
New exterior door handles, door rubber, new door dew wipes.
Everything Else: New wiper blades, rebuilt windshield sprayer pump, new misc decals, new front flexible black grill inserts
Over the past couple of months since we rescued this beautiful original 1979 Nocturne Blue Metallic (rare color) with light blue hobnail interior Trans Am, we have spent countless hours refurbishing where possible and replacing where necessary parts to bring this beautiful classic back to her former glory. The car had three owners prior to me and they were all friends. The car was owned by the third owner since 1985 and has been off the road and in his garage for almost 30 years, since 1989. The car does have headers on it that have been on it most of its life and no catalytic converter. The OEM radio cassette player work as new. The car does need repainted to make it a show car as the paint and bird decal are showing their age, but is presentable as an original paint car also. The interior is original and can be properly seen in the pictures. The last picture looking through the rear window shows a small approximate 1" tear in the top of the rear seat. I think this could be repaired, it is not very noticeable. The t-top bags are still with the car. The plastics have been re-dyed as they were sun and just age faded. The carpet rear shelf package tray and headliner were also replaced to complete the freshing of the interior. Everything works as it should, AC/heater, speedometer, tachometer, even the clock moves ( it just doesn't keep time). There is no rust or rot that we have found on the car and we have had all of the interior out of the car. The prior owner told us that the paint is original and that there was no rot anywhere on the car. He also stated that the car had never been in an accident. Unfortunately carfax and others don't typically have records going back 40 years. I am going to try to list all of the work and or parts repaired or that we have replaced over the past couple of months to give you an idea of the work that has gone into this beautiful classic pony/ muscle car. If you have any additional questions or are interested in additional specific pictures, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate. The car will also be for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early and sell to a local buyer. Thank you and good luck!
