Description
Up for sale is a very Rare Car! 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. Built by Bill Mitchell with proof. The car is a non matching 454 Big Block! Engine does not turn over! Automatic transmission, with factory ordered T-Tops. The car is a non A/C car leaving the engine compartment nice and clean. This car was bought on ebay and sat around for many years. The engine does not run! As you can see from the pictures the body is in nice shape for the year. Yes I do have the shaker. The inside needs a lot of work carpet, seats and headliner but its all there. Radio stolen but 8 track is still there. This car was a blast to drive, Very Fast!! I do not have the factory wheels that's the way I bought her. I do not have the key for trunk but will let you know the condition when open. The car will need to be checked out from the brakes to the engine, not a running and driving car! These car are going up in value everyday. The frame is good. Very little rust. I am selling car with a very low reserve. Good Luck and Happy Bidding. 1977 was the year the Y-82 landed a spot in the movies and became a screenlegend beside Burt Reynolds, Sally Fields and Jackie Gleason. Titled Smokeyand the Bandit, the movie was a big cops-and-robbers chase spectacular withBurt helping a trucker deliver some suds by acting as heat magnet for SheriffBuford T Justice, played by Gleason. The film was made in 1976 using severalTrans Am equipped with what would be the SE package. With lots of comedy andaction, the movie was a box office hit. This kind of product placementadvertising was invaluable. Pontiac was instantly rewarded with high showroomtraffic and virtually every "Bandit" T/A selling for sticker price.
Sales of 1977 SE’s were high with 13,706 T-top models sold. The solid roof, known as Y-81 was less plentiful, only 1,861 made. The engine choices in ’77were either a Pontiac 400 with TH350 trans, a high perf Pontiac 400 with manualfour speed Super T-10, or the high perf 400 mill was also available with theTH350. The third choice was an Oldsmobile 403 with TH350 tranny. The rare birdswere Y-81s with the 4-speed equipped mill. Only 384 were made. Any four-gearBandit is rare with just 3,083 made. The L78 was the most common T/A engine, delivering 180 hp, while the performance W72 400 kicked out 200 hp. The Olds 403had 185 hp. Used as the default mill in California, the 403 had a low profile in1977.
