HISTORY
I discovered this nice Porsche 912, parked in a neighbors garage in Running Springs, California, not far from my previous home. As it turns out, my old neighbor was saving it for his daughter, who was waiting for her fiance to return from service in the Marines. They had planned to restore the car, evidently having gotten so far as removing the top (from what once was a coupe). However, plans changed, once it was discovered that a baby was on the way. Life goes on!
RESTORATION POTENTIAL
If you are considering that this car might become YOUR baby, perhaps there are some questions you may have. Please feel free to ask. You can email via eBay, or my phone is (909) 838-9160.
VIN PLATES
The car number, 351050 can be found on the vin plate under the hood, also stamped in the body just below that plate, and on the factory original plate in the driver door jamb. ACCORDING TO MY NUMBERS BOOK, THIS IS A late 1965 CAR, although the title says 1967. Why is this so? It's been my experience that often these early new car dealers would title the car the year they SOLD it, rather than the year it came from the factory. So, if this one arrived in America late, or sat on the lot for over a yearthere you have it1967.
The paint code, 6605 (Bahama Yellow) is found on the door jamb plate. The vin plate under the hood includes, in part, Dr. Ing h.c.F. Porsche, KC Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen Typ 912 Typ 356B T6 S50
MECHANICAL
You can assume this Porsche will need a full mechanical restoration, and that all parts are not necessarially there, or original. Includes the transmission, in place, as well as PART of an engine (please see photograph). Another engine block, as well as some misc parts, are also included. The tires hold air, and the car rolls and steers nicely, quite important, particularly if you are planning on putting this car on transport, or packing it in a container.
COSMETICS
As you can see from the photographs, the car is quite solid in many ways, but you should assume that it will have rust in the usual 912 places. For example, the tow hook and jack mounts will need some work. Of course, a replacement top will need to be located for the car to be correct. You will notice that the seats and steering wheel are not factory. The driver door wind-up glass is missing. These are examples of cosmetic items that may either be incorrect, missing, or need replacing.
The advantage of old paint, is that nothing can be hidden. I can find little evidence of bubbling cancerous rust in the doglegs, doors, or anywhere else in the paint, for that mater. I do see signs of filler, particularly in the rockers.
INCLUDES
Includes good California title, matching the VIN number on the car. Bill of Sale will include “This car sold as is, with no guarantees or warranties expressed or implied.”
