Description
When it comes to nearly universal appeal, few European cars bring
it quite like the Porsche 914. While a lot of its competitors placed
an emphasis on speed, style, or some other singular piece of the
puzzle, the 914 did its best to be everything to everyone while
providing a solid foundation to build upon. While almost all the
dials have been turned up, this restored 1973 914 continues to be a
car that virtually any enthusiast could hop behind the wheel of and
have an absolute blast. From the stout 4.3L V6 and rebuilt side shift
5-speed manual to the beautiful Ivory white exterior and restored
interior, everyone who has a chance to eye the car in person will
find something different to admire.
Originally leaving the factory as a 2.0 deluxe with a modest boxer 4 cylinder today it sits as one extremely custom 914. Drawing heavily on a performance muscle euro car theme, thanks to its upgraded power plant and modified suspension, this show quality Porsche falls somewhere between pro-tourer and resto-mod. It starts with the body that was covered in a fresh vibrant Ivory White coat of paint that makes it stand out even at a car show full of classic cars.
It’s obvious that Porsche has always sweated the details on the 914. And with its completely new bright work and bolt-on pieces, this 914 presents a professionally finished appearance that goes far beyond nice paint. At the front of the car, new halogen headlights anchor a stylish original engine hatch mesh as the grille between behind the chrome bumper. pristine glass rides between new stainless wipers, bright stainless frames and a factory mirror. At the sides of that glass, a traditionally sculpted profile lays the groundwork for fiberglass flared fenders, classic chrome handles. And at the back of that profile, a second show worthy bumper reflects factory-fresh tail lights, and the exhaust tip sits below the rear bumper.
Hoist this 914 snug fitting hood and you’ll find a 1990's bowtie 4.3L V6 that has been overboredto create plenty of true horse power. The beneficiary of an extensive build, the 4.3L sounds incredible and produces an estimated 310hp with similar torque numbers. At the top of the cast iron mill, an Edelbrock Carter style 4 barrel carburetor. The red VORTEC valve covers provide some nice pop to the engine bay. When the cast iron heads flood the cylinders, an Electromotive distributorless ignition sends spark into the cylinders through Taylor wires. The resultant gases are jettisoned through ceramic coated headers and enter in to a true dual exhaust setup. The combustion’s cooling is provided by a large BeCool aluminum radiator and helped by two electric puller fans. Overall the car’s custom engine compartment is exceptionally well done, featuring first rate ancillaries.
The bottom of this awesome 914 is just as impressive as its slick exterior and smooth engine bay. Behind the mean motor you’ll find a rebuilt side shift 5-speed manual transmission that sends power tothe Heavy duty axles with 914-6 CV joints.. The other thing you might have noticed in the engine bay and will definitely see it from underneath the car, is the builder opted to uncut the rear trunk for the typical distributor. The front end is comprised of a 1983 911 SC setup complete with brand new calipers(not rebuilt) complete with Koni shocks all around. Spent gasses travel out the aforementioned headers through dual exhausts equipped with chambered flowmaster mufflers that create a magnificent muscle car sound. At the corners of the car, gorgeous 15” FUCHpolished wheels put power to the ground thanks to Goodrich euro sport rubber.
Open the door to this pristine 914 and you’ll find a fully restored cockpit that mixes the best elements with standard black vinyl that provides an exceptionally attractive starting point. The Deluxe interior bucket seats wear new pleated covers. Above the seats the factory black dash appears as if it came straight out of the box yesterday morning. Inside that dash, a traditional black instrument panel holds a full assortment of VDO gauges between new chrome knobs for the cars accessories. steering column houses an impressive black spoked and black trimmed MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. The car sports new black carpet to its fully restored and correctly finished trunk.
Absolutely no expense was spared on this killer 914! It combines professional grade performance hardware with one of the coolest bodies in the hobby to create a take-no-prisoners Euro racer. Thanks to its bored over 4.3L and its killer look, this 914 is ready to provide years of enjoyment to a lucky buyer. If you are looking for a fully sorted classic that’s scary fast and an absolute blast to drive, Congratulations, you’ve found your next car!
Also available for sale but not included in this sale is another transmission that was slatted to be installed in this car at a latter date. It is another side shift trans but fully upgraded with a tall 911 5thgear set with an overdrive ratio of .59 that will dramatically reduce highway RPM's. The case was beautifully coated in a vibrant silver TEFLON coating to reduce oil friction within the case as well as making it simple to maintain its as new outside appeal. There is a custom made billet steel gear carrier housing as well. All of the gears were magna fluxed as well as having been REM processed. No expense was spared in the build of this transmission.
