Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to offer this sleek Sienna (think "dark reddish brown") 1985 Porsche 928S. Introduced at the Geneva auto show in early 1977, the 928 represented a lot of firsts for Porsche, including being their first front engine car, first production car V8, first water-cooled production car, and more. It was a completely unique platform which shared literally no parts with other Porsches in production. Talk about a fun car to go cross-country in - even the relatively under-powered 1978 model, with its 219 HP 4.4L V8, it could still cruise at well over 100mph in comfort, AND (from personal experience) remain nearly unnoticed by sharp-eyed speed enforcement personnel. Back when the 928 first came out, here in the USA, few except the automotive cognoscenti knew what it was, or what it could do, performance-wise. It didn't look fast, and it certainly didn't appear to be going as fast as it was usually going when someone did notice it. Having driven one from northwest Ohio to the 12 Hours of Sebring race back in 1980, I can assure you that even a mere 219 HP was enough to create opportunities for some seriously fast, seriously fun driving. The 1985 models received a bump in displacement and power over the earliest 928's, with its all-aluminum V8 punched out to almost 5.0L, and putting out almost 300 HP, it made for even more serious fun! The 928 had a unique transaxle configuration, with its "Weissach Axle" out back; a real advancement in rear suspension/axle design, one which significantly reduced the likelihood that drivers would get themselves into trouble due to "snap oversteer" during overeager cornering. That rear setup saved this driver's bacon at least once on that trip to Sebring, so I can attest to its effectiveness. While Porsche purists may not have sung the praises of the 928 because it wasn't rear engine or air-cooled, those who were fortunate enough to have the chance to drive one invariably came away singing its praises. It was very fast, very comfortable, very subtle (its styling didn't scream "I'm going really fast!" even though it was running well over 100 on the interstate), and it handled very well for a car that possessed the luxury amenities that the 928 came loaded with. It was, back in the day, the very essence of the "Q-ship": the proverbial "wolf in sheep's clothing" kind of sports car, able to fly just below noticeability at warp speed. This 2-owner 928 has been with its owner for all but the first 5 years of its history, and the mileage on the odometer lines up with the Carfax, so it is very likely an "actual mileage" car. The Sienna paint is in good shape, and the burgundy leather shows only minor wear for being 36 years old. If you want to zip cross-country, making better time than the law allows, this could be a great solution for you. Additional features and options on this 1985 Porsche 928S include Air Conditioning, Aluminum Wheels, AM/FM/CD Radio with Bluetooth, Cruise Control, Leather Interior, Power Brakes, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Seats, Power Steering, Power Sunroof, Power Windows, Radial Tires, Seat Belts, and Tilt Wheel.
