You are looking at a 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo (951). I am a Porsche Club of America member and have owned many Porsches from 911 old, new, 944 and 968.
This car has been with a very good friend of mine in TN for the past 4 years, until I got it from him last november while I was living in FL. I have done several minor things to the car but now moving on to a new project. Before that it was a daily driver for the first owner in TN, who had it until 2000 and drove it to 100,000 miles. The second owner, also in TN had it between 2000 and 2013.
That being said I am the 4th owner. Carfax does show an accident in 2008 for the second owner. According to my friend, he had the car on an autocross event, spun and hit a fence on the passenger side, front , door and rear. Airbags did not deploy.
Mechanically the car is very sound and great for a 29 year old machine. The engine compression test showed 149; 153; 155 and 153 PSI for the cylinders 1-4 respectivelly. It has aftermarket Authority chips on the DME and KLR. It has a manual boost regulator on the intercooler intake pipe. It has a CAT bypass, but the original CAT is available with the car.
It comes with Porsche twist wheels (boxster 17") with very good Continental DW tires.
The part of the car that needs most TLC is the body:
- There is a dent and scrape on the rear quarter panel behind the wheel housing.
- The rear quarter panel on the passenger side has a pea size paint chip by the taillight.
- The passenger door moulding is peeling paint (bubbly).
- The front bumper is peeling (bubbly) paint by the headlight washer and top by the front panel.
- The right fender has a parking lot type dent (no paint damage).
- In general car needs a good paint refresh (buffing, polymer treatment etc).
Interior of the car is really great for the age of the car. Leather seats are amazing, no cracks or anything. Carpet has no stains. Seatbelts, door panels, all great.
Only interior issue is a crack on the dashboard by the top vent (see picture). Common problem on these cars. Windshield has a pin sized chip that has been repaired.
Maintenance performed:
- New timing belt, crankshaft seals, balance shaft seals, drive belt, rollers, balance shaft belt done at 119,000 miles. No rust.
Other issues to mention: AC is leaking. It will hold a refrigerant charge for 6-8 weeks but then it's gone. The oil pan gasket is wet but it's not dripping oil on the floor. Rear window wiper inoperable.
Instrument lighting is a bit dim.
Otherwise everything else works. Aftermarket Clarion CD player, original cruise control, headlight motors pop up, all lights, alarm. No check engine light comes on.
Manual, maintenance book, tools and air compressor are in the car.
Two keys.
In the past year I have put less than 1000 miles on the car. Moved to Illinois last spring and the car was kept garaged for this period.
This is a reliable ready to go car. The winning bidder could fly in to Champaign or Bloomington IL and drive home to any location in the country.
I am happy to arrange transportation or help with the logistics of pickup / shipping. Transportation costs to be borne by buyer.
