Description
I am looking to sell my 1983 Porsche 944. I have owned thecar for just over 5 years now. The odometer reads at ~113,000 miles, I havedriven it roughly 10,000 miles in the time that I have owned it. I moved to anew city and have to downsize. I no longer have the time or equipment to takecare of the car. The car's registration is currently expired, although I have gotten its emissions tested recently so it should be easy to register again.
I would describe this car as a running project car. It hasspent the majority of the 5 years I have had it living outside, and thecondition of the body as well as the motor make that evident. Despite livingoutside the car still runs and drives well. I have been using it as a dailydriver for the last 5 years, although its use was intermittent depending on theseason. I think with some work and some love this car could be brought backinto pretty good shape. It would make a great track car if someone put in theeffort to set it up as one.
There are some problems and peculiarities I am going to listout. I’ll also do my best to point these out in the included photos. 5 years ago,I drove the car out from San Diego CA to Boulder CO. Prior to the big trip outI replaced the following: alternator, fuel pump, water pump, front timing beltand associated pulleys. The seals on the sunroof were trashed and I decided toglue it shut, so it no longer functions. I also installed a Dansk sport exhauston it, so the car has a nice sound when driving. On the drive out to Colorado, theA/C compressor blew a valve due to the summer heat, so the valve needs to bereplaced and the system needs to be recharged for A/C. On that drive the fuelrail suffered a critical failure, a high-pressure steel input fuel linecracked, and fuel began spewing all over the engine compartment. I was able tothrow together a temporary fix, which can be seen in the photos. I purchased afuel rail off another car to replace the original one, however the temporaryfix I installed has worked so well I never bothered. It has been holding strongfor 5 years now. I will include the replacement fuel rail incase the buyer isof the mind to replace it.
In addition to the motor issues, there is a dent in the right section of the rear bumper, it could potentially be buffed out. A hinge on the driver side door snapped, so the door can swing all the way open. You need to be careful when opening this door, as it could damage the body if it swings open too wide. The interior has seenbetter days. The biggest issue has stem from a water leaking issue, despite mesealing the sunroof shut. Somehow water leaks in and accumulates behind thepassenger seat. I never found the source of the leak, but it can be prettysubstantial if the car is left out in a heavy storm. As a result, the carpetbehind that seat is completely trashed. The passenger seat was in poorcondition when I bought the car. The front dash was wrecked when I got it too,so I screwed in a black carpet dash cover over the top of it and painted thesides black to match. I did end up installing a MOMO steering wheel as well asa custom aluminum shift knob, so those help to spice up the interior. Anothernote is that the rear hatch can be a bit stiff, I can show the buyer how toopen it. You essentially just pop it and yank straight to the left and then itwill open.
