Description
Rover 200 Race Sprint/Hillclimb/Track
car
The base car is a 1997 (R Reg) Rover 200VI 5 door with 60,000 miles which is currently SORN’ed and registered in my name. I purchased it solely to be a sprint car in March 2007 and it competed in the Curborough sprint championship for 2 years in standard roadgoing trim (winning the overall championship in 2008). The winter of 2008 saw the car being rebuilt from road going to non-road going, including an engine rebuild. The car did a number of events the following few seasons, winning the 1.4-2.0L modified production class overall in 2010.
The engine was completely stripped and refreshed in 2012 with the majority of components being sourced from Dave Andrews at DVA Power, since which the car covered 60 miles at Bruntingthorpe during engine run-in and has done 5 competitive events at Curborough sprint circuit. The engine specification is pretty much the 185BHP kit/spec.
The specification is as follows:
Engine
Standard BlockNew Omega Forged CoatedPistonsStandard Bushed Con-RodsBalanced CrankshaftAll new LR shells in thebottom end of the engine (AS16 spec/material)New Goetze linersVery Low mileage, hardnesstested VVC cylinder head (sourced from a development engine at a UKuniversity) which was ported and polished inlet matched to the throttlebodies by Dave AndrewsVVC removed and replaced with285H camsVernier PulleysPiper Timing BeltJenvey DTH 45mm TaperedThrottle BodiesBernard Scouse Airbox andcold air feed, modified with custom spacersEmerald K3 ECU with 3 mapswitchJanspeed Full Stainless ZRexhaust system (4-2-1 manifold)Magnecor LeadsBaffled Sump

Bodywork and Interior
Welded-in MSA SpecificationRoll-Cage (installed by a professional fabrication company)Dashboard and Sound DeadeningremovedCobra Bucket SeatNew (2014) Titon 3” FIAharness
The car is in solid, clean condition; there are a few ‘battle-scars’ from clipping cones and kerbs whilst competing. All of the decals are vinyl and can be removed if required. It has a current MSA Log Book.
The car is very quick and will embarrass much more expensive machinery on track. The engine was mapped with an inferior (non DVA!) cylinder head back in 2009 by Dave Walker at Emerald and produced 178bhp; the revised cylinder head and airbox set-up has increased this (I can’t quote an accurate figure, but from the terminal speed figures at recent events I expect it will be closer to 185bhp now).
There are a couple of videos of the car on
