Skoda 2008 RS Wagon 2.0 litre turbocharged FSI 147kW engine and six-speed gearbox.
The Skoda Octavia impresses with its level of safety, handling, performance and comfort. In the sports car range it has the unique advantage of being available in both sedan and wagon. This turbocharged Czech rocket is turning heads wherever it lands and feedback to this point has been positive.
The standard features list is impressive and includes climate control two-zone airconditioning, cooled glove box, multi function on-board trip computer, soft touch rear door electric remote opening, heated power mirrors, power front and rear windows, heated front seats, cruise control, rear park distance control, central locking, inside rear vision mirror with automatic dimming and rain sensor, and a top of the line radio pack with six-stack CD changer and MP3 player with 8 speakers.
The turbocharged, intercooled, four cylinder, 2.0 litre, petrol engine features direct injection technology and delivers 147kW of power between 5100 and 5700rpm and 280Nm of torque between 1800 and 5000rpm. The 2.0 TFSI engine is matched with a six-speed manual transmission that is easy to use with a close, sporty gear shift. The gear ratios are nicely matched to the engine characteristics and the clutch action is light and user friendly. The engine is smooth and achieves excellent performance throughout the rev range.
Interior space is excellent with ample storage pockets throughout, including roof sunglass holder, upper dash pocket with lid, arm rest box with 12V audio socket, under passenger seat storage compartment, large front door side pockets with 1 litre drink bottle holders, rear doors side pockets and chilled glove box. The RS even has small storage pockets in the sides of the sports seats.
Skoda has also added little extras such as document and card holders in the glove box lid and a parking ticket holder on the driver's front windscreen attached to the "A" pillar. The Octavia wagon is also well equipped - its massive rear cargo area has a low floor that still manages to conceal a full size spare tyre.
The safety package on the RS includes Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD). It also has active front seat head restraints, driver and passenger front airbags, side airbags, head curtain airbags and tyre pressure monitoring (TPM).
The build quality and finish, both inside and out, is impressive. Skoda's choice of quality plastics and trim materials makes for a rattle and squeak-free environment and a comfortable driving experience.
The paint finish was also good. Our test vehicle was "Race Blue Metallic" which, when combined with the RS styling package, made it stand-out in the crowd.
The RS is fitted with an alarm with internal monitoring and a siren with back up power. The Octavia also has remote control central door and tail gate locking and fuel flap locking.
