Description
This 1951 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe is an excellent candidate for stock restoration or hotrod creation. With a few minor exceptions, this is a complete car. The car was last licensed in 2008, but has a clean MN title. It has been stored in a shed for most of the time since then, and was retrieved from there late 2020.
The engine is a '58 Champion engine (Canada) from the serial number, C-74796. Obviously, not original, but it is unknown when that was installed. The engine runs with an external fuel supply and pump. The transmission seems to work well, but have not gotten up to speed to try overdrive. Videos are viewable on the photo website that shows the car engine running and car driving. The brakes are non-functional. The fuel tank, line and mechanical fuel pump conditions are unknown, presumed needing cleaned or rebuilt. All electrical wiring will likely need replaced as there are many bare spots. Complete wire harness available from Studebaker International for $168.
The body is very rusty, but not beyond restoration. Floor and trunk pans can be replaced. Body panels are repairable or replaceable. Other rusty areas are repairable with light fabrication. The frame has surface rust, but does not appear to be compromised structurally. See photo site via link for detailed pictures. The car was painted at some time in its history, but the only evident bondo is at the front of the right rear quarter panel ahead of the rear fender, and lower back corner of the passenger door. All 4 wheel covers included, but poor condition. Retainer clips are missing from one wheel. Spare with bad tire and stock rusty bumper jack is included.
The door windows and back windows are in great shape. The window vents are the worst with delamination. The windshield has some fogging and delamination along the bottom at the outer edges. See website photos. Door windows roll up and down.
The entire interior is shot, as visible from photos. Clock and AM radio are non-functional. Speedometer does not work. Fuel gauge and ammeter are unknown. Oil pressure and water temp gauges work.
